Katherine and Andrew met through the Young Adults Group at West End Community Church. Through group hang outs like skeet shooting, lake day, and dancing in the park, Andrew pursued getting to know Katherine better. Young Adults planned a whitewater rafting weekend and Andrew planned to spend as much time with Katherine as possible. Unaware of Andrew's intentions, Katherine hopped in a raft of girls. Andrew got no time with her that weekend. So, at church, he took the initiative and asked her on a date.

After a snow skiing trip, Andrew and Katherine put several nights on the calendar for date nights. March 20th, Andrew suggested a matinée at the Nashville Symphony and dinner to follow. Andrew had intentions to propose that day with plans for symphony, walk, and a surprise proposal party with family. However, the night of the 19th Katherine woke at midnight with abdominal pain. After a visit to the walk-in clinic early in the morning, Katherine was told it was gastritis (a stomach bug) and the pain would get better. Symphony plans were canceled while waiting for the pain to lift. Evening came around and the pain still had not lifted. Dinner plans were canceled. Around seven o'clock, Katherine sat up with excruciating pain. Andrew and Katherine finally got to go out... to the ER. Later that evening, the diagnosis of acute appendicitis was given. Monday morning, Katherine had surgery and Andrew (after sitting up all night in the ER), finally went home for a nap with the ring still in his pocket. For Katherine's first week of recovery, Andrew stayed near her and worked remotely on the couch beside her. Saturday, March 26th, Andrew took Katherine on a long walk in Centennial Park. Over by the tulip garden, Andrew got down on one knee and finally got to pop the question. Katherine said yes before the ring was even on her finger.
