Shuttle

Shuttle from Bogotá to Villa de Leyva

September 30, 2026 9:30 am - 11:00 am

We are still working out the details of transportation, but we are planning on shuttling from Bogotá to Villa de Leyva on Wednesday morning. Those who are attending the wedding but do not want to partake in the shuttle are welcome to Uber themselves or find alternate transportation. Those who are attending the wedding but are arriving after Wednesday morning will have to arrange for your own transportation as well. We will leave tips and suggestions!

Travel Tips

All guests will be flying into Bogotá as that is the closest city to where we are getting married. Villa de Leyva is about a 3 hour drive from Bogotá. We recommend getting there a day or two before September 30th as we are shuttling to Villa de Leyva that morning. This way the travel is less exhausting, and you can experience the city with us! For those who are unable to arrive early, getting to Villa de Leyva from Bogotá is as easy as calling an Uber. You will get to see the most beautiful countryside during your drive, and we encourage you to stop and try some local food along the way (including Colombian gas station hotdogs and roadside arepas, seriously)! If you are uninterested in an Uber or want to look at alternative options, feel free to rent your own car, arrange private transportation, or take the Transmilenio (download Moovit for instructions using the bus terminals) and immerse yourself in the locals! If you are thinking of renting a car, we suggest renting an electric or hybrid vehicle as these vehicles are exempt from Colombia’s “no drive” days where only certain license plates are allowed on the road on certain days. We recommend that ALL guests be present in Villa de Leyva by October 1st as to avoid any traffic jams, hiccups, or obstacles that prevent our guests from attending the wedding.

Airport tips

Everyone will be flying into the El Dorado airport in Bogotá, and it is slightly different than what we are used to! You will first have to go through immigration after getting off your plane (have your passport ready). You will follow the signs for baggage claim until you see the Immigracíon sign. Be sure to go to the line that is labeled “Foreigners.” The line may be long, but they do a quick job of getting everyone through. Once through immigration, you will follow baggage claim signs once again to bring you to your bags if you have checked any. On the right side of the wall by baggage claim will be the money exchange. We recommend doing this in the airport as they have the best exchange rate. Only one person from your party is allowed at the money exchange for security purposes, so choose who will be doing that ahead of time. It is easy, but they will ask you about your reason for travel, occupation, etc. Once you have gotten your money exchange, you will follow the signs that say “Salida” until you reach another checkpoint where they will run your bags under the x-ray machine. After completing this step, you are good to go! If you are going to Uber (there will be people who attempt to stop you to convince you to get into their taxi service - this is up to you, but we would recommend Uber to be safe), upon ordering your Uber from El Dorado to your hotel location, it is likely the driver will message you and ask you to go up the escalator or elevator inside the airport to the second level where they will give you a recommended gate to stand outside of in the outer lane. This is because they do not want to compete with airport taxis who are located on the ground level, and it is an easier pick up.
