Comprised of about 5,744 acres of land and 2,332 acres of water, Heyburn State Park is a paddler and pedaler paradise. Miles of trails await you whether you are a hiker, cyclist or horse rider. Bring your own boat or rent a kayak, canoe, or standup paddleboard and enjoy three lakes — Chatcolet, Benewah and Hidden Lakes, or the shadowy St. Joe River, which meanders along the eastern boundary of the park. The Trail of the Coeur d’Alenes, one of the most popular biking trails in the western United States, runs directly through the park.
Take a road trip us the St. Joe to explore the highest navigable river in the world! If you love fishing, the Joe is renowned for its catch-and-release cutthroat trout. You can also go swimming in the river, exploring hiking trails, or simply basking in the beauty of the great outdoors!
There are only two places in the world you can find Star Garnets - India and right here on the Idaho Panhandle National Forests! The garnets found here are called "star garnets" because of a unique property that causes some of them to display a reflection like a four- or six-pointed star. India is the only other place in the world where star garnets like these are found in any quantity.
The St. Maries Golf Course is a challenging, panoramic 9-hole golf course in a beautiful setting with paved golf cart trails, a club house, and restaurant. Terrific views and challenging play for golfers at every skill level. Well-groomed fairways and greens keep the course difficult yet friendly. Aj and Aspen have many, many memories that have been made here!
