How We Met

From College, To Marriage

We met through Brittney’s roommate and AJ’s friend, Ashley. At first, we didn’t think much of it as we both weren’t in the place to start another relationship. But after multiple common “hang outs” with friends and seeing each other on campus, we both felt the urge to keep the chat going. From the conversations of dirt bike riding to wake boarding to expressing other music interests — it just clicked. We were each other’s second half. If anyone knows Britt, she’s girly on the outside but loves engaging in all things fun and OUTDOORS— to wake boarding on top of shoulders a few trips in, to taking a chance in the desert and camping while taking the dirt bikes for a spin to long outdoor hikes and loud rock music— we both figured this was meant to be, if any one knows AJ..

The Engagement

Oak Creek Golf Course

AJ can tell this story… A lot of planning and thought went into the engagement. From meeting at our officiant’s home (The Hatfield’s) several days a week, cutting out the letters, painting and managing to convince Britt I was just at the Hatfield’s every day for the last 2 weeks just to “hang out”. To playing Oak Creek 4x in one week to perfect the timing of the engagement and when we would make it to hole 18. To finally convincing Britt to play golf with me and two other guys on a Saturday when she was supposed to go to her friend’s “say yes to the dress”. A lot of planning, timing and thought went into this day to ensure all plans ran smoothly. It started the Friday night before at the driving range and convincing Britt’s friend, Sarah, to cancel on her and say because of COVID, the amount of girls able to come to her dress fitting are at a minimum of two. Although Britt was frustrated and upset, I decided to go to the driving range and have her let out some anger (just kidding). At this point, Britt hadn’t golfed in almost 6 months so her swing at the range was about shooting a 100 on a bad day of golf. She was frustrated that she was unable to hit the ball and said “let’s go home”. As we decided to head back home, I had already told all her friends to say they were busy that weekend incase she “asked them to hangout” knowing she wasn’t going to the Bridal shop. As it all worked out as planned, she texted four of her friends, and randomly or by coincidence, they were all busy or had plans. I convinced her to play a round of golf the next day with Scott and Bobbee (which she both loves, so I knew she would say YES!). Once at Oak Creek, we had a great day of golf and the hours started to tick down, getting closer to that 18th green. I just have to say for the record, her swing was unreal and had an excellent day of golf that day. From her driver swing, to chips and finally birdieing the 17th hole (which is unreal to say the least), we arrived on the 18th tee box. I knew in a matter of 5 minutes, I would be down on one knee, getting ready to ask Britt to marry me. I wasn’t nervous the entire day, but the last two hits I had, I could barely place the ball on the tee. With shanking both balls, I said “Ride with Scott, I am going to find my ball.” I left her with Scott and Bobbee, and of course, she cranked one to the center of the green. Within the 3 minutes I had, the Hatfield’s arrived with the letters, flowers and ring and I rushed to the 18th green, waiting for her to arrive around the corner with a photographer in place. As she pulled up in the golf cart, in tears and couldn’t breathe (if you know Britt, this is her with everything), I GOT DOWN ON ONE KNEE and asked her to marry me. FINALLY, I headed to my parents to our surprise party we were throwing for Britt. Food catered of her favorite things, including sushi, drinks and her favorite wine (Justin) and all her friends and family there. With the 80+ people we had at our engagement, we hope to celebrate our September date with you AGAIN. Cheers!
