Our formal beginning takes away from how we truly came to know of each other, but it has been said that most of the time what you have been looking for all along is right in your back yard. Mel and I have been friends since high school and so for our entire friendship I have known Aislen to be Mel's sister and not really anything past that. It was 4th of July 2020 and a group of us were down at the island for the weekend. The holiday landed on Saturday and as expected it was a day of fun in the sun on the beach. At some point mid-afternoon we decided to take a walk toward the jetty; there and back was about an hour and a half. Some time on the way back, Aislen asks me, "what’s this walk all about or what prompted it?" That was a door sent from above and Lucas walked right in! We shared our attractions to each other with each other and from that moment forward it has been non stop love for each other.
Wow! What a memory, a day, an experience! I worked on it all in secrecy as I wanted the proposal to be a surprise; the travel, our families, a weekend getaway and the photographers. Early on at some point Aislen mentioned wanting to see the leaves changing. I immediately made it what our engagement was going to be about. September 23rd, Thursday morning, was the big day! We went to Mueller State Park right outside of Colorado Springs, where the proposal was set up. Both our families and photographers were in place, we just needed to come through and the moment of a lifetime was going to take place. I was breathing hard, my voice was choppy and my heart was racing. The “view” I had presented was only captivating for so long and I was already behind schedule. Aislen looks farther into the horizon off her right shoulder, I drop down to one knee without her seeing me and when Aislen looks back over it was all right there! I asked her if she would marry me and her response flooded with emotion was “Of course I will”, we were both just so caught up in everything taking place, so much emotion and just in aww. Shortly after, both our families came out from hiding to share the exciting news. The weekend was set, I had booked a house for the whole weekend that was big enough to fit both families comfortably and we spent the next four days all together enjoying each others company over home-cooked meals and little daily excursions. The weekend was unforgettable!
