We didn't realize planning a New Years getaway to Punta Cana would change our lives forever. John was visiting with his family and I was visiting with friends. We met causally by the pool. John came over to tell us the best drinks to order at the bar and the best places to eat while on the resort. What better way to start a vacation, or should I say holiday! The next morning it was clear our paths were destined to cross. We met again near the pool and chatted for a bit. We both walked away feeling as though we already knew each other or we would see each other again. A special energy surrounded us in that moment. A moment we would talk about for a lifetime to come. Back in NJ -- After a few phone calls, texts, and dates we turned a friendship into a relationship.
I proposed to LaTonya on Christmas Eve as I wanted us to celebrate Christmas by committing to share our lives together. After being together for 2 years I knew she was an amazing woman who I loved and wanted to marry. I had many people tell me over the years "when you know, you just know" and I finally knew what that felt like. I arranged dinner in the city with a stop in Weehawken to see the NY skyline. I asked someone nearby to take a picture of us together, but I was actually about to pop the question. As we posed for the picture, I got down on one knee in the night lights of the NY skyline. She said yes and brightened the rest of my life!
