My grandma was visiting us in the States and we wanted to do a family trip to DC. Packed in two cars we went to the DMV area when my grandma said we have to stop in Baltimore, her friend Prem lived there and she hadn't seen him in ages! We made the stop for lunch with the whole family. Sangeet and I spoke for a few hours on the kitchen table and facebook friended each other. The story paused there for about 5 years.

Aishwarya and Sangeet had been talking via text, snapchat, instagram, messenger, FaceTime and the phone for about 6 months now. Aishwarya had a study abroad trip with Semester at Sea planning in about a month. Before Aishwarya left, Sangeet drove up 4 hours from College Park, Maryland to spend the day with Aishwarya. They went to the MOMA museum, ate Sprinkles cupcakes, and had delicious Thai food. They realized their love for Thai food, similarities in culture both American and Nepali and it was love at first date. After that, they spend the next 5 months communicating via seamail while Aishwarya was on a cruise ship.... love story continues but we'll stop there for now.

It was 70 degrees and sunny in NYC - the perfect day to show our cousin around who was visiting from Boston. But instead, Sangeet and Bhishan were playing FIFA. I eventually convinced them to go out and enjoy the city. We went to Central Park and his friend was supposed to meet us at Bethesda terrace. We were all looking for her when Sangeet pointed and said, “Look over there - she's here.” As I turned around, everyone was staring at me in awe. When I looked back over to him to ask what was happening, he got down on one knee. I was shocked. He asked to marry me! I honestly was in so much shock I said yes then backed away to take a second. All the noise around me went silent. The moment I had been hoping for since I met him finally happened!! He put the ring on and it was the perfect fit, just like him. I can't wait to marry you!!! ILY.

As soon as I picked the ring out, I started thinking/stressing about how I was going to propose. It was not an easy task to figure out the proposal that I think she deserves. I eventually landed on Bethesda Terrace because it is easily our favorite spot in the city. There were a couple things I knew I had to do 1) Get a photographer 2) Make sure she's dressed up. I booked a photographer online and I coordinated the plan with my cousin and her best friend that we'd lure her into the spot saying that we're meeting up with my cousin's friend, and that we have dinner plans after so she dresses up. Now we're at the day of the proposal. If you guys know Aishwarya, you know that she is an antsy person.. it was not easy to get her to be where/when I planned. We left for Central Park sooner than I wanted, because she's just like "It's so nice out lets go". So we're at the park an hour ahead of time and the photographer wasn't there yet. Good thing the park is huge and she loves taking pictures! We walked around the park for a while saying that my cousin's friend is running late. Eventually we made it to the Bethesda Terrace at 4:30, where we told her my cousin's friend was now at. Little did she know that her best friend was waiting with the photographer. Once we were at the spot, I pointed over to show her friend, and as she turned I got down on one knee. She looked back at me and was in shock, I believe the words "shut up!" were uttered. I asked her to marry me and got an emphatic yes! A crowd of people surrounded us and clapped/cheered, but all of that was just background noise, all that mattered was that I was with the person that I'll spend the rest of my life with.
