Our love story

Bride's POV While studying for my licensing exams, my head buried in books, a friend suggested we take a breather and attend a wedding. I was opposed to the idea as I thought any form of break, being so close to a life-changing exam, was ridiculous, so I declined. However, when I mentioned it to my sister, she convinced me to go. My friends sweet-talked me into it, promising we would head straight to the library afterward. The main convincing element was the amount of food I would get to eat at the wedding and the possibility of takeaways, as I hadn't been cooking much. So, I decided to go. I had a wonderful time! It was a much-needed break, and I even got some takeaway jollof for the road to the library after. A week later, I received a text from a gentleman introducing himself. He complimented how I looked at the wedding and wanted to know if I was single. Luckily for him, I was. I was a bit wary because I didn't speak to anyone at the wedding, so I asked if he even saw me there. That’s when he described my hairstyle, the color of my dress, the shoes I wore, and the activities I participated in during the wedding. He had seen me and liked what he saw. Each interaction was filled with warmth and laughter, and slowly but surely, the "interviews" that he jokingly referred to our initial conversations evolved into deeper discussions about our lives, our dreams, and our shared values. His laugh made me laugh, his words of encouragement and affirmation made me feel safe, and his way with words swept me off my feet every time without fail. My words never fell to the ground unattended. He made it his mission to love me the way I wanted to be loved, to care for me, and to support me in any and every way he could. Before I realized I was falling for him I had already fallen! It all felt so smooth and comfortable. One of God’s divine plan for my life. Groom's POV From a “chance” meeting at a wedding to our own nuptials: This has been a love-filled, exciting journey and this ceremony is a special part of that. Who could’ve imagined the moment I spotted a beautiful lady across the reception hall and found a way to get her number that we’d end up here. Both my cousin and a close friend were having their weddings a day apart in different countries. I had to make a choice. Before I could, my cousin asked me to stand in as his best man. I couldn’t say no. It was a great day but a busy one. Not too much time to mingle but during the reception, at the bouquet toss I spotted a purple-clad, sliver-heeled, rich-toned girl with braids walking toward the rest of the assembled single ladies. At the end of the night, I asked my cousin if he knew who I described. He connected me and I thought of all the reasons not to reach out for a week. After all, I’d never got the chance to introduce myself at the wedding. Good advice and some gentle urging led to me take a chance and the rest is history. I’m so glad and thankful for the seemingly coincidental yet ordered and divine steps that led me to my partner in this life. She sees me. Understands and supports me. She is as kind as she is brilliant. Beautiful both inside and out. Grounded with lofty dreams. She’s perfect for me and I know God loves me because he gave her to me.
