How We Met

From wedding to wedding.

His: I knew Aisha since 2000 when she was part of my cousin, Hildah’s fine girl crew in Unilorin. I believe she had been checking me out since then because she claims we were cool friends. Meanwhile, I was just being a good cousin, treating her friends like a gentleman. Fast forward to 2017 at Hildah’s wedding in Munich, where I was being a good cousin and gentleman again. I had the honor of walking Hildah down the aisle while Aisha was maid of honor. We worked together and almost always found ourselves in the same place. She had started checking me out again and yeah I caught a view or two. Two days later as we left Munich, she said something that has locked me in her web ever since. ”Jide, I really enjoyed these days with you, I think you’re a really cool guy and I would like to keep in touch”. That's when I knew all my chivalry, smiles, winks, speech and the innocent Usher moves had locked her in my web too. Success! We became friends all over again and have been talking every day, because unknown to us, we had also fallen in love. Hers: I had known Jide from school, then he left for the US and that was that. Occasionally, Hildah will talk about him (he's her favourite cousin and Hildy is my best girl). One time I was in the US, she suggested I call so he could show me around but I never did. We ran into each other at Hildah’s wedding. I remember thinking (out loud) 'Oh wow, the years have been good to him', he looked good. I think Hildah told him (smh). We were on the bridal team. I was the Maid Of Honor and he walked her down the aisle. We got to spend time together (a little too much) at the wedding party and after. He then left for Stuttgart and I, Paris. The end. Or not; The calls and chats started; endless talks about nothing and everything. We were halfway across the world and yet felt so connected. Adventurous with the love of travel, we decided to catch up as much as we could. Few cities, lots of fun and here we are ready for an amazing adventure.

He Proposed!

12 . 31 . 18

I had no idea! None of my friends hinted me. Even Hildah! Are they even my friends (definitely open to discussion)? They were acting all weird now that I'm thinking about it. But they aren't your average, so. Anyway, Jide planned a dinner on NYE because we needed 'US' time in the midst of all the celebrations and family gatherings. I was so tired, I tried to get out of it but he insisted. Dinner was lovely, we dressed fresh and funky! After dinner, he got a call from his sister, Tope to pick up her ring which she forgot at another restaurant she was in earlier. I think they were trying to get me to the proposal. Still didn't get a hint, but you know what was weird? Jide was sweating in air conditioning. Got to the restaurant and he insisted I go in with him. I was tired. He persuaded. Then Funbi's song ‘Serenade’ was playing at the restaurant (Omg you need to listen to the whole album). Still didn't catch a hint. I thought it was the radio! Ha! So I walked into the room and his family, my friends (on probation) were all there handing me roses. Yes, roses! He went all out! I was literally surprised and the most amazing man, my friend, asked me to marry him. I said YES and OMG I love LOVE my ring. The only thing more wonderful than my ring is the man who gave it to me. Exactly what I have always wanted. He got this right. A girl is happy!
