Technically, we weren’t supposed to meet. When we matched on Bumble, Eddie’s minimum age was set to 23. Aimée was 22. In what can only be described as fate, and a little middle school rebellion, Aimée had once lied about her age by a year to join Facebook. Years later, that tiny act of middle school angst meant she met Eddie’s 23-year-old minimum, and the algorithm did the rest. Our first date was at Anvil Cocktail Bar in Houston, Texas. What was supposed to be a casual drink turned into hours of conversation about politics, values, John Mulaney's stand-up, and the kind of life we wanted to build. It was the kind of date where you forget to check your phone and secretly hope the night never ends. Alas, it did because Aimée had to wake up at 6 AM to teach 110 middle schoolers the next day and Eddie had a full day of legal research ahead of him. By the fourth date, sitting at a hookah lounge and completely failing at peeling crawfish for the first time, something clicked. Later, we bonded over films like Frances Ha, laughed at Nicolas Cage and John Travolta’s chaotic performances in Face/Off, and binged documentaries ranging from Rubble Kings to Fyre Fest. Somewhere between movie debates and our pup, Penelope's, attempts to remind me she was Eddie's girl first, we realized this was something special. What started as a Bumble match turned into a deep friendship, a steady partnership, and a love that keeps growing. That was only the beginning, as many of you know. Since then, we have completed graduate school, passed the bar, and gone on adventures near and far. We cannot wait to celebrate this next chapter with all of you as we make our partnership official and embark on new life as a family.
