Question

Post-Arrival tips

Answer

1- Money: • If you’d like to shop for bottles at Duty Free upon arrival, it’s best to have cash (USD) with you because they will ask you to pay the tax in cash (USD). • At Terminal 3, right after customs, you’ll find ATMs on the left-hand side. You can withdraw Egyptian Pounds (EGP) there for your first Uber ride into the city. • A ride from Cairo Airport to Downtown/Zamalek/Garden City is usually around 300–350 EGP depending on traffic and time of day. • Most places in Cairo accept cards, but carrying some cash is still useful for taxis, tips, cafés, and smaller shops. 2- Communication & SIM Cards • WhatsApp calls are restricted in Egypt unless connected to Wi-Fi. However, apps like FaceTime, Zoom, and Messenger usually work well. • If you’d like a local SIM card, you’ll find Vodafone, Orange, and WE booths at Cairo Airport near the luggage belts area (Terminal 3). • You can also buy SIM cards later near your hotel, as mobile shops are everywhere in Cairo. • Or an e-sim! 3- Getting Around Cairo • Uber, Careem, SiXT and London Cab all work well in Egypt and are usually the easiest option for visitors. • If taking regular taxis, we recommend agreeing on the fare beforehand (but better using uber). 4- Cairo Neighborhoods Central & Walkable • Garden City • Zamalek These areas are central, beautiful, and close to Downtown Cairo and our place. More Modern / Residential • New Cairo • 6th of October These areas are newer, quieter, and full of malls, cafés, and restaurant complexes (slightly “Laval vibes” for our Canadian guests 😄). 5- Useful applications: • Talabat/ Rabbit (food delivery) • Instashop (groceries/pharmacy delivery) ***Don't drink tap water!!

Question

Visiting the Pyramids & GEM

Answer

1- Self-Touring the Pyramids • You can Uber directly to the Great Gate entrance of the Pyramids area. • Inside, shuttle buses stop at the main viewpoints and monuments, making it easy to explore at your own pace. • From the Sphinx Gate area, you can easily Uber to the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM). 2- Important Tips • Vendors may approach you offering camel rides, horse rides, or photos. A polite “shokran” (“thank you”) is perfectly enough if you’re not interested. • If you want to enter one of the pyramids, make sure to purchase the additional entry ticket at the main ticket office when you arrive. • Payments at the Pyramids site are card-only (no cash). 3- Food & Coffee • Khufu’s Restaurant and Ladurée both have beautiful views near the Pyramids. Reservations are usually recommended. • Inside the GEM, we personally recommend: o Zooba for Egyptian breakfast/brunch o 30 North for coffee o and definitely the gift shop! GEM Tips • The Grand Egyptian Museum is huge, so guided tours can actually be worth it if you want an overview of the main halls. • Our personal favorite section is the Tutankhamun collection. • Also don’t miss the sunset view of the Pyramids from inside the museum — it’s beautiful. 4- Anglophone tour guide • We have contact of a tour guide that was very helpful and made our experience more valuable. If you’re interested, we can put you in touch with him. • Price per person for the tour guide’s price to visit the pyramids only was (35USD) in April 2026. You can pay the equivalent in EGP. • We can put you in touch with him to discuss his different packages etc.
