This place is straight out from a fairy tale. Such wonderful architecture and rich colors. It's breath-taking. A must visit. Buy your ticket online it's cheaper, get there early as possible to avoid long lines. Be prepared to walk a lot about 20 minutes up to the palace.

The magnificent town of Sintra is a beautiful village with subsequent filtered views of fascinating mansions, castles and fairy tale style palaces. Many, which seem to emerge in between the gaps of quaint old buildings while you walk these ancient cobblestone streets and alleyways. There's lots of stores with the usual cork and ceramic touristy items. Nice restaurants, bakeries and cafes around the quarter too . Worth a wander! The hotels in Sintra that I recommended in STAYS are within 15 minutes walking distance to this main tourist area.

The Obidos, a picturesque medieval village, is well worth visiting and strolling around for a couple of hours. It is a fortified city that is best known for its cherry liquor with chocolate. The village is well equipped for visitors and there is a good range of shops with souvenirs, wine, cafes and restaurants, all with reasonable prices.
