Question

Do I need a visa to travel to Brazil?

Answer

Yes — starting April 10, 2025, U.S. citizens will need a tourist visa to enter Brazil. The process is expected to be fairly simple and can be completed online through Brazil’s official e-visa portal. We’ll share a step-by-step guide and helpful links on our website. A few key notes: Apply online through the official portal: brazil.vfsevisa.com— no in-person consulate visit needed. Fee: Approx. US $80.90, valid for 10 years with multiple entries; stays up to 90 days per year Documents required: Valid passport, passport‐style photo, proof of residence, travel itinerary, accommodation details, proof of return ticket, and financial evidence. Processing time: Usually around 5 business days, but it's highly recommended to apply at least 2 months before travel. Minors: Children under 18 need birth certificate and parental authorization plus standard documentation.

Question

What airport should I fly into?

Answer

Porto Seguro Airport (BPS) is the closest airport to Arraial d’Ajuda. The journey from the airport to Arraial d’Ajuda takes approximately 30 minutes via town/ferry crossing. To make your transfer seamless, we’ve arranged a private shuttle service for our wedding guests. See below for more details.

Question

Porto Seguro airport to Arraial d'Ajuda

Answer

Guests flying into Porto Seguro Airport will take a short journey to reach Arraial d’Ajuda. To make this easy, we’ve arranged a private shuttle service for our wedding guests: • The shuttle will pick you up directly at the airport. • You will remain on the shuttle for the entire journey, including the ferry crossing to Arraial d’Ajuda—no need to disembark or handle luggage. • The shuttle will also be available for your return trip whenever you depart. This way, your transfer is simple, stress-free, and comfortable from the moment you land until you reach your accommodations.

Question

Where should I stay?

Answer

Our wedding venue, Pousada Beijo do Bento, will be available for guests to book. We’ll share more details, including special booking rates, as soon as we have them. In the meantime, feel free to visit the Travel section of our website for a curated list of nearby hotels and pousadas we recommend. Airbnb is also very popular in the area, with lots of charming and affordable options. If you go that route, we recommend staying as close to Rua do Mucugê as possible — that’s the heart of town, with easy walking access to shops, restaurants, beaches, and our wedding activities. While August isn’t considered high season for international travel to Brazil, it is still a popular month for domestic tourism, so we recommend booking accommodations early to get the best options.

Question

Are there other events besides the ceremony and reception?

Answer

There will be a welcome and farewell event in addition to the wedding ceremony and reception, details can be found under 'Events'.

Question

Transportation in Arraial d'Ajuda

Answer

If you're staying in or near the main strip, Rua do Mucugê, of Arraial d’Ajuda everything you'll need (shops, restaurants, beaches, and the wedding festivities) is within walking distance. Rental cars are not necessary unless you prefer to not walk on cobblestone streets and hills, or you plan to explore beyond the center of the town. Car rentals are available in Porto Seguro and Arraial d’Ajuda if you'd like the flexibility. Uber and taxis are available, though Uber coverage can be limited at times. We will be providing shuttle services for guests upon arrival and departure, to and from the airport and accommodations. For the wedding weekend, we’ll have private shuttles arranged to take guests between venues.

Question

Local currency and credit cards

Answer

Brazil uses the Brazilian Real (BRL). Local currency can be obtained through ATMs or exchange in airports. Credit cards are widely accepted and even by some small vendors - but cash is always useful.

Question

Do I need to speak Portuguese?

Answer

Not necessarily. Many locals in tourist areas speak basic English, but a translation app will definitely be helpful!

Question

Are kids welcome?

Answer

Kids are absolutely welcome. Just be sure to include them when you RSVP so we can plan accordingly.

Question

What will the weather be like in August and what should I pack?

Answer

August is part of the dry season in Arraial d’Ajuda, which means you can expect plenty of sunshine and warm days, perfect for the beach! Temperatures typically range from the mid-70s to low 80s°F (24–28°C) during the day. That said, evenings can get a bit breezy, especially near the coast, so we recommend packing a light sweater, jacket, or long pants for nighttime strolls or dinners out. You probably won’t need anything heavy, but it’s nice to have a layer just in case. What to pack: Light clothes, swimsuit, sunscreen, insect repellent, a nice outfit for the wedding, and comfy shoes!
