Travel Note

Flights into Hawaii Island

For travel, we strongly recommend flying into Hilo International Airport (ITO), which is the closest airport to our home and the wedding venue. While Kona International Airport (KOA) is another option, it is about a two-hour drive to Fern Acres. The drive is scenic, but it is a longer trip — especially after a long flight — so Hilo is much more convenient if possible. Rental cars are available at both airports, and we recommend reserving in advance.

Hotel

Grand Naniloa Hotel Hilo - a DoubleTree by Hilton

93 Banyan Drive, Hilo, HI 96720
 808) 969-3333

Grand Naniloa Hotel Hilo is one of the larger, full-service hotels in town, located right on Hilo Bay with beautiful ocean views. It offers standard hotel amenities like an on-site restaurant, bar, pool, and golf course access. While it’s not a luxury property, it’s a convenient and comfortable option for guests who prefer a traditional hotel setting with front desk service and easy access to town.

Hotel

The Inn at Kulaniapia Falls

100 Kulaniapia Dr, Hilo, HI 96720

For guests looking for a unique, scenic stay, The Inn at Kulaniapia Falls offers beautiful waterfall views and a lush jungle setting. It is a bit farther from our residence, but a wonderful option if you’d like a peaceful, nature-filled experience during your trip.

Hotel

Volcano House

1 Crater Rim Drive, Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, HI 96718

Volcano House is a historic hotel located inside Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park, right along the crater rim. It offers a unique experience with dramatic volcanic views and immediate access to hiking trails and the park. It’s about 25–30 minutes from our home in Fern Acres and roughly 35–40 minutes to Hilo, making it a great option for guests who want to explore Volcano and enjoy a one-of-a-kind national park setting. Please note that Volcano sits at a higher elevation, so temperatures are cooler and evenings can be chilly compared to Hilo.

Hotel

Old Hawaiian Bed & Breakfast

1492 Wailuku Drive, Hilo, HI 96720

Old Hawaiian B&B is a locally owned bed and breakfast just outside of central Hilo. It has a quiet, tropical setting and offers a more traditional, home-style stay rather than a hotel experience. It’s a good option for guests who appreciate a simple, relaxed atmosphere and a more personal, island-style stay.
