How We Met

February 3, 2016

Adrian’s Version: It was the first Wednesday of February. I was working on calculus homework when I decided to take a break. I can smell the Chick-fil-A from the evening rush hour pick up. I saw a beautiful woman and she looked like she knew how to dance. I told myself if she sat next to me I would talk to her. She looked like she was heading upstairs but then she sat down with two seats between us. Maybe she was lazy, but now I had to say something. I started looking at my textbook and thinking of what to say. Before I took off to a gear heads meet, I asked Jocelyn, "Do you like salsa music?". She had a smile on her face and said "Yes". So I told her about Ritmo and if she would want to meet up later there that evening. I showed up a little late. Once I had placed my things down, I made eye contact with Jocelyn, and I saw a smile I would never forget. Jocelyn’s Version: It was February 3rd and I had just gotten out of class. I went straight to LBJ where I would get my daily dinner of Chick-fil-A. I had been eating upstairs all week... but on that day in particular I didn't want to walk up the stairs so I decided to sit in the lower level (Adrian likes to claim that it was my laziness that brought us together but I like to believe it was fate). Well 2 seats down from me was a cute guy who was studying. I was half way through my meal when I hear him ask, "Do you like salsa music?". Startled, I responded with a "Yes". Adrian went on to tell me about Ritmo, a club at the Rec that shows students how to dance to salsa music. Coincidentally, they had a meeting that night and Adrian invited me to go. We decided that we would see each other there in an hour. I felt my stomach filled with butterflies as I got to the Rec. Ritmo had just started but Adrian was no where to be found. 5 minutes later I see him rushing in. I instantly smiled at him. We were dance partners that night, but little did I know that we would later become dance partners for the rest of our lives.
