We met at a classic San Francisco Marina establishment, Westwood, on the very last night that restaurants and bars were open before the infamous “Shelter in Place” went into effect during the 2020 pandemic. Shortly after meeting, Torrey quickly became part of Adria’s “bubble,” spending nearly every day together at her home in the Presidio. During what we came to call “Blursdays,” we got to know each other through games, beach days, hikes, music, and endless exploring of the Presidio. In June of 2020, just a few months after we met, we took a coastal road trip up to the Oregon border. Along the way, Torrey fell in love with a remote cabin tucked into the Jedediah Smith Redwoods. By August, Torrey had moved out of his Mission home, and we packed up our lives and headed north to Crescent City. That season was pivotal for us. Weeks spent immersed in the redwood forest, paddle boarding on the Smith River, and soaking in the quiet beauty of life in the woods allowed our relationship to truly flourish. During this time, we rescued our first pet, an elderly stray forest cat named Meow Meow. Little did Torrey, previously “not a cat guy,” know this would be just one of the three pets we would end up rescuing together. Eventually, trips back to San Francisco became more frequent, and our full-time forest living came to an end when we were both called back to in-person work. We decided to take the next step and get our first apartment together. We moved into a shoebox-sized apartment on Fillmore Street in the Marina, with Meow Meow officially becoming a city cat, and began a new chapter navigating life post-pandemic. Even though we had already spent over a year together, this time brought many “firsts,” including our first concerts, reuniting with friends after months of distance, traveling, and celebrating weddings. After a year in our little Marina shoebox, we moved into a new apartment by the water, where daily walks along the Marina Green became a cherished routine and we were lucky to have many close friends as neighbors. This was a sacred time for us that we’ll never forget, surrounded by so many wonderful people. We soon rescued our second cat, a tiny kitten we named Birdie. With our cozy apartment, our two cats, and friends close by, we felt as content and in love as ever. Still, more change was on the way. As time went on, Torrey, born and raised in Santa Barbara, felt a growing pull to return home to be closer to family. With over five years of visits under our belts, Adria fell in love with the town and its community as well. In late 2024, we made the difficult decision to pack up our San Francisco life and move south in the new year. With just a couple of weeks left before the big move, Torrey surprised Adria with a proposal at Inspiration Point in the Presidio, right where our journey began. In our years together, we’ve rescued three loving pets, Meow Meow, Birdie, and our newest addition, a rescue pup named Freddie. We’ve traveled near and far, chased live music, camped, surfed, and taken plenty of spontaneous road trips, building a life shaped by curiosity and shared experiences. Through every move and season of change, we’ve learned how to be steady partners to one another, navigating life side by side and supporting each other along the way. What began as an adventure has grown into a partnership rooted in love, resilience, and choosing each other every day. We can’t wait to continue our journey and tie the knot in Sayulita, Mexico, a place we fell in love with together. We’re so excited to celebrate with you in this beautiful place. See you in Sayulita! 🤍
