Our Story

Jose and Adilene first crossed paths at the police academy in Pittsburg back in 2022. Jose noticed Adilene pretty quickly—but she had absolutely no idea he existed. He kept his distance, worked up the courage, and waited for the right moment to finally say something. That moment arrived with a little help from academy friends, a little liquid confidence, and one bold text asking her out. Adilene didn’t realize it was a date—she thought it was a group hangout and started inviting extra people. This became a bit of a trend. Jose tried taking Adilene out several times during the academy, and somehow those “dates” kept turning into group outings. Eventually though, he managed to lock down an actual one-on-one: a fancy Mexican dinner in San Francisco, followed by gelato. That’s when things really started to click. After graduating, Jose and Adilene ended up working for different departments and living in different cities—Stockton and San Pablo. What they thought might be a short-lived academy romance turned into months of long drives, late nights, and choosing each other again and again. One day, slightly on a whim, they went apartment hunting in Walnut Creek… and somehow moved in together within a week. Casual. Jose fell for Adilene’s heart—her kindness, her strength, and the way she always puts others first. She’s the kind of person who shows up, even when it’s hard, and never lets obstacles stop her from chasing her goals. Being with her just felt right. When it came time to propose, Jose went all in. With the help of Adilene’s mom (the real MVP), he secretly booked an Airbnb in South Lake Tahoe and hired floral designers to set the scene. Adilene was told it was a girls’ getaway for her birthday weekend, and Jose pretended he had to work overtime. As soon as she hit the road, he raced up to Tahoe to decorate the Airbnb. That night, when Adilene returned from dinner with her family, Jose was waiting on the back patio—flowers, nerves, and all. She said yes. And now, here they are—proof that sometimes the best love stories start with bad timing, missed hints, group “dates,” and one brave text.
