Our wedding will take place in Portimão, a city that is deeply dear to both of us. Portimão is where Adib was raised and where so many cherished memories were formed, making it a place filled with family, history, and a true sense of home. Choosing to celebrate here allows us to honor those roots while sharing a place we love with the people who mean the most to us. We feel incredibly blessed that our family and friends are willing to travel and experience this special city alongside us, and we cannot imagine a more meaningful setting to begin this next chapter together.
Getting to Portimão There are several airport options for traveling to Portimão. Guests may choose to fly into either Lisbon or Faro, both of which offer convenient access to the destination. The easiest way to reach Portimão is by flying into Faro Airport (FAO), about one hour away. From there, you can travel by bus, train, taxi, or rental car to Portimão. If you’re coming from Lisbon, Portimão is easily accessible by bus or train (about 3–3.5 hours), or a scenic drive of approximately 2.5–3 hours. We recommend travel by bus while in Portugal. It is convenient and safe.
For guests traveling from the United States, no visa is required to visit Portugal for our destination wedding, as long as your stay is 90 days or less within a 180-day period. You will enter under the Schengen visa-free program, which also allows travel to other Schengen countries during your trip. Please make sure your passport is valid for at least three months beyond your departure date from Europe. If you plan to extend your stay beyond 90 days or travel for another purpose such as work or study, additional visa requirements may apply. Looking ahead, beginning in late 2026, U.S. travelers will also need to obtain an ETIAS travel authorization prior to departure (this is not a visa, but a simple online pre-travel approval).
Portuguese is the official and primary language spoken throughout the country, but English is widely spoken, especially in major cities and tourist areas such as Lisbon, Porto, and the Algarve. In hotels, restaurants, transportation hubs, and tour companies, English proficiency is common, and American accents are generally well understood.
