How We Met

"And if you're in love, then you are the lucky one..." - Daughter

Unofficially, we met in passing at Dos Caminos (Tayo was running late as per usual). Officially, we met at Daughter concert on the Lower East Side. After getting shushed by numerous concert goers for talking too much, a shared cab ride, and hours of conversation at Ulysses', we knew this was the start of something special...

The Proposal

Back to where it all began

It is the evening of 17th, November 2018 and I am about to put my most elaborate undercover operation till date into motion. Earlier that week, I’d suggested to Glenna that we should head out for a casual dinner out at a surprise new location in town. Unbeknownst to her, the night was anything would be anything but casual and was instead a culmination of weeks of planning, communication and coordination between myself, her parents, friends and family. All around us (and unknown to her) plans are in full swing as Glenna’s parents and closest friends arrive in a hotel right up the street from our apartment traveling into town for this momentous occasion from locations ranging from New England to Texas. In addition, a mutual friend of ours has been enlisted to whisk Glenna away to the nail salon for a spa date priming her for the evening’s activities that she still has no idea are about to unfold. Her being away in turn afforded me the opportunity to finalize logistics with the photographer I hired and her mom for capturing the proposal and ensuring preparations were in order for the post-proposal celebrations respectively. I can point to three feelings on the car ride to our "dinner reservation" but nothing more. They were (1) Extreme glee at the thought of what was about to transpire (2) My heart beating heavily against the ring box in my left jacket pocket and (3) Absolute conviction and love for the woman who was sat right beside me. The night culminated with us getting out of the car a block away from where I intended to propose. I deliberately had her walk in front of me and then called for her to turn around. When she whipped her head around, there I was with ring in hand at 7.44 pm on a wintery night and on a relatively busy New York City sidewalk, I was down on one knee asking my best friend and the Love of my Life to marry me at 89 Greenwich Avenue (formerly known as Good Restaurant) the establishment we went to 7 yrs before on our first official date.
