How We Met

“Lord, give me a sign…”

We met on two separate occasions, one and a half year apart, and we knew there was something special about that. The first time we met, it was a sunny day, Ade introduced himself to Lade at a family-friend’s birthday party. Ade had been eyeing her at the table she was sitting at, and it wasn’t until she stood up to prepare a plate of food for her mother and her nephew was when Ade took the bold step in introducing himself to Lade and eventually asking for her number. Somewhere along the lines, we completely lost contact with each other and went on with our lives. Fast forward to the second time we met, more than a year and a half later, it felt like fate. On Christmas Eve, Ade met with a couple of his friends at a restaurant and was enjoying the evening and holiday season by listening to good music and talking with his friends. In comes Lade and her friend, and immediately Ade was drawn to Lade as if he’d never seen her before. Ade remembers that Lade had on cute prescription glasses, she wore plaid pants in Christmas colors, and wore a black trench coat — as if she was prepared for Christmas Day. After a few minutes goes by, Ade walks up to Lade and politely introduces himself to her. In the moment, Lade didn’t want to talk to anyone, she just wanted to enjoy the music and vibes and made it clear that she was just there because her friend asked her to come with her, but Ade confidently persisted. He faced her and said “Give me Grace.” Upon hearing the word ‘Grace’, Lade then obliged and asked for his phone to attempt storing her cell phone number and that was where the conversation went from 1 to 5. As Lade began storing her number, she noticed that her number had already been stored and was popping up as she entered each digit. Confused by the coincidence, she asks Ade “how do you have my phone number?” He looked a bit shocked and then replies, “I don’t know, we must have met somewhere before.” We both were so intrigued in the moment. Ladè picks up her phone, types his number in her text messages Search Bar and realizes this was the same person that she had met a while back. He actually texted his name to her the day they met, but she never stored his number or followed up with him.. What makes this story even more compelling, was the fact that early that same morning, Lade received a random message from Ade on her WhatsApp account, wishing her a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year in advance but the number on WhatsApp was not saved and the message thread was empty — completely different from the text in her direct messages with her iPhone. Lade actually responded back with well wishes, not knowing that it was actually Ade and that she would be bumping into her future husband that very night, Christmas Eve. God knows best and God has very unconventional ways of doing things just to show that it is indeed God in the midst, His plans are always intentional. From that day forward, we have been inseparable.
