Tunmise and Adeoluwa grew up in the same church but never really spoke to each other. Then one fateful day, after one of the Church's programs, he gave her a ride home. It was just a casual conversation on the drive home. Afterwards, it was always just a simple hello each time they saw each other in church. He eventually got her number when she told him she was going away for NYSC. Every once in a while, they had what they called "situational updates", which was really just catching up with each other. In 2019, Adeoluwa relocated to the US, and they continued their “situational updates,” but now he had an endearing nickname for her: "smallie". But still, they were really just friends. So much that Tunmise would often joke about how she couldn’t wait to eat Jollof rice at Adeoluwa's wedding. Then, in 2020, Adeoluwa visited Nigeria in 2020, and when they met up, it was a whole lot of fun; filled with bellyaching laughter and conversations about life in general. After this particular meeting, Adeoluwa was struck by how very cool she seemed and how much fun it was to talk to her. And yet, even when his best man teased him about her, he insisted she was just a “church sister”. However, after his trip, they started talking even more often, and after numerous WhatsApp calls and chats, and over the years, as their relationship evolved, they developed feelings and began to realize what they had could be something. Adeoluwa visited Nigeria again a couple of times, and they made it official!
Longwood Gardens always has such a beautiful scenery, especially during the festive season. So Adeoluwa planned with Tunmise's friends so that they (she and her friends) could visit the Gardens (without him). As soon as Tunmise arrived at the garden with her friends, she said to them, “It would be so nice if Deolu could propose to me at this place.” Unbeknownst to her, a plot was brewing mere feet away from her. Not long after she uttered the statement, they came across a brightly lit spot in the garden, with the song “How Long Will I Love You” blasting across the space. To her biggest surprise, she saw Adeoluwa and a group of people waiting for her. He went down on one knee and asked her to marry him. It was the most beautiful, unforgettable moment. They are excited to celebrate this next chapter of their lives with you and can't wait to see you in Lagos!
On one of Adeolu's trips to Lagos, he decided to go pick up Tunmise from work, an offer she first resisted because she felt he was no longer cut out for the after-working hours Lagos traffic. Adeolu insisted. In fact, despite her warnings about the unreliability of Google Maps in Lagos, Adeolu still used Google Maps "in order to get the fastest route home". Well, he should have listened because Google Maps ultimately took them through a longer route and terrible traffic. But this turned out to be a spontaneous date for the two of them. They got to talk, eat, and listen to music as Adeolu tried to find his way through the traffic. At the end of the journey, it didn't feel like the 3-hour drive that it was, as it ended up being such a fun-filled experience for them. So much that they now refer to that day as "traffic date".
