Before they truly met, Jazmyn and Sean’s paths crossed several times—first at an etiquette workshop Jazmyn’s dad hosted for members of Alpha Phi Alpha at Mizzou, then through a brief hello via a mutual friend the following year. But it wasn’t until a casual lunch at Plaza 900 dining hall in the fall of 2014 (Jazmyn’s freshman year) that they finally connected. While chatting among friends, they discovered they shared a class that semester: Intimate Relationships and Marriage—an ironic course that filled a prerequisite for most majors. From then on, they sat side-by-side in that large lecture hall, their seats quietly becoming “assigned.” Though they mostly talked schoolwork, the reason for Sean’s distance soon came to light. That November, during Alpha Phi Alpha’s probate at The Blue Note, Jazmyn was stunned to see her classmate on stage—bald, proud, and newly initiated as the Ace of his line. She texted him afterward, and though neither knew it yet, that message marked the true beginning of their story. The rest of the semester brought study sessions, long talks, and even a holiday invitation from Jazmyn’s parents. The next semester, Sean finally asked her on their first official date--dinner at Murry’s Jazz Restaurant--and by March 2015, they were officially dating. For two and a half years, they grew together—until Sean graduated in 2017 and life pulled them in different directions. While they always considered each other to be college sweethearts, they assumed their love story had ended then—until fate intervened. Three years later, a chance encounter in Columbia led to a three-hour coffee date. Two years after that, as mutual friends began marrying, they found themselves crossing paths again and again. In November 2022, Sean took a chance and invited Jazmyn to join him in New York City after a work trip. Five years after they thought their love story had ended, they finally decided to remove the period where God had only put a comma. On November 14, 2022, they decided to try again—this time, for good. Their reunion came with challenges: Sean lived in Dallas, while Jazmyn was studying law in South Bend and preparing to spend the next five months abroad in London. Despite the distance—and a six-hour time difference—they stayed connected through FaceTime, hundreds of dollars spent on Verizon’s international plan, and intentional effort. Those months apart proved that if they could survive this, they could weather anything together. Over the next 32 months, they visited each other constantly—meeting in London, taking the train to Paris, Jazmyn going to Dallas, Sean going to South Bend or St. Louis, and every so often taking trips together to Miami, Costa Rica, and Memphis. Every month brought a new adventure and a stronger bond. After Jazmyn graduated law school in May 2024, they were ready to end the long-distance chapter, and over the next few months, they made a plan for Sean to relocate to St. Louis. On April 9, 2025, Jazmyn drove to Lambert St. Louis Airport to pick Sean up from what seemed like his usual 7:40 p.m. flight. But that night was anything other than usual as he stepped off the plane in a full suit—with a ring in his pocket. In the carpool lane, he stopped traffic, got down on one knee, and asked Jazmyn to spend forever with him. That summer, they packed up their apartments, made the drive from Dallas to St. Louis, and finally began their next chapter—home, together at last!
