We met one of the very first days of our freshman year at Olivet Nazarene University near Chicago, Illinois. Over the next couple weeks we hung out with the same group of friends and got to know each other better. We were interested in each other but I had decided not to date my freshman year.
Adam and I talked often during the summer between freshman and sophomore year and after we arrived back at school for our sophomore year Adam officially asked me out. We spent the next three years in a long distance relationship - being together nine months out of the year at school and often visiting each other's homes over school breaks. After COVID forced us to go home in the middle of our spring semester of senior year we didn't know when we would be able to see each other again but eventually I was able to make a few trips to visit Adam at his home in Michigan.
On my last trip to Michigan Adam surprised me by proposing! He had been planning for months and had his family and several of our friends help him out. Adam got me to dress up on pretense of me filming a Tik Tok with his younger sister, Kathryn while he went to get ready for the proposal. After doing our filming Kathryn and Adam's mother, Janet, drove me to the church where Adam had everything set up. I walked up to a replica of the Narnia wardrobe and went through it. A lit path led me to where Adam was standing in a lit up canopy with the song Turning Pages playing. He asked me to marry him with a half carat halo diamond ring and I said yes! Afterwards he had another special gift for me: a three month old kitten! We named him Sokka and are so happy to have him as the third member of our soon-to-be family!
