In January 2022, Grace moved to Boston—ready for a fresh start after two years of living at home during COVID. She was craving the energy of a big city after her post-college stint in Buffalo, NY. Just a month later, she matched with a guy named Zach on Hinge. His smile (especially in those hiking photos) caught her eye right away. Even better? Hinge said he was only a mile away. Perfect, Grace thought—location is key! What she didn’t realize at the time was that Zach’s location was set to his office, not his actual home... where he was still living with his parents. After a day or two of chatting, Grace said, “Let’s get coffee,” and Zach replied, “Sounds great, when?” She surprised him by suggesting coffee at lunch time the next day. He was impressed—and maybe a little thrown off—but said, “Let’s do it. I’m excited!” To which Grace replied, “I’ll work on getting excited.” It was his first taste of her signature sarcasm. They met at Caffè Nero on Tremont Street. Grace ordered tea, Zach got coffee, and he also ordered a chocolate croissant… which never came. They sat by the window, Grace peppering the conversation with “um’s” and nervous laughs, Zach smiling through it all. As his lunch break came to an end, they asked the barista about the missing croissant—and were sent home with two. (It was pre-gluten-free Grace. A simpler time.) That accidental two-croissant moment turned into countless more—coffee dates, hikes, dinners, and weekend getaways. And from that first bench by the window, they’ve been inseparable ever since.
