Notre rencontre - Sarra's story

05/05/2016

Sarra

How we met - Adam's Story

5/05/2016

Fate: 'the development of events outside a person's control, regarded as predetermined by a supernatural power.' I never gave the word much thought until now. See, I was in between jobs at that time and two offers came in at the same time. Job A, offered me a junior role but with plenty of growth opportunities. Job B on the the other hand, offered me a better position, with a better salary but with no growth opportunities. I contemplated this very hard, 'What do I do?' I thought. I decided to do what many would have done and I decided to accept Job B. 'I am going to call them up tomorrow morning and accept' I thought, I switched off the lights and went to sleep. But something happened on the next morning. Job A called to check how I am doing, and that conversation changed everything... Fate. On my second day at my new job, I was asked to send out an introduction email to the whole company, you know the kind, where are you from? What are your hobbies, favorite food, that sort of thing. Right, OK - 'Adam Laamouz' I began, 'I am Maltese, wait, maybe I can write about my Tunisian heritage, and why not? It is who I am after all'. I started again, half Maltese, Half Tuni... 'Wait, no.' I thought 'in Malta, I am Maltese!'. I highlighted the text and deleted it, but then something inside of me tingled, like an unexplained flutter in my stomach urging me to be true to myself and write about my Tunisian heritage, and so, I did... Fate. I finished my intro email and sent it to everyone, and in the midst of all the welcoming replies and skype chats, one message stood out. "Marhaba bik" it said which translates to 'Welcome' in Tunisian. 'WTF?' I thought, curious and delighted, I began a conversation with this stranger and rest is history. See, if I had left that part of me out, Sarra would have never messaged me, we would have probably never met, never talked, never laughed, loved and shared. Our story was truly written in the stars, it can only be described as...Fate.

La demande en mariage - Sarra's story

29/05/2021

The Proposal - Adam's Story

31/05/21

The proposal! A big day! I am a big romantic, so I had thought about many possibilities. The original proposal plan was going to be in Namibia back in 2019. 'A-ha!' I thought, nothing like a proposal on an adventure, well Covid had other plans for us and that trip was cancelled and in some very odd way, I was glad it was. The timing of it wasn't right. Time passed, and as the virus gripped the world, it forced us to spend a lot of time together. For some, it was a nightmare, to be stuck with the same person every day, that would drive anybody insane! But not for us. Despite our love for freedom, our chase for lonesomeness and our strong individuality, something happened! We grew closer, we talked more, our souls further intertwined with one another and we started to further understand each other on a deeper level. One day, just like that, it felt like the right time for both of us. I could feel it, she could feel it and I knew I had to do it. So, come February 2021, as we planned our next holiday - we picked Greece. as our travel destination. I thought maybe I could do it in GREECE! I mean Greece. How very 'Adam and Sarra', a Mediterranean culture, with lots of food, an oriental place and European too, it just sounded perfect... but still, did not feel right. I searched myself for the answer and it didn't take much time to find it. See, for Sarra, meaning is more important than flash, sentiment is more important than gleam. Fast forward to the day, it was a beautiful and balmy day in the magnetic Xlendi bay in Gozo, a place where we both shared so many memories, laughs and good times. As the adorning sun stretched its red tentacles onto the horizon and filled the sky with a brush of orange, I took Sarra to the quietest place I could find, I summoned the courage and I read her a letter and I asked 'Sarra, will you marry me!?' to which she replied 'Are you serious?' - She teared up and said yes and that moment was one of the happiest of my life.
