Best Man
Friend of the Bride & Groom Adam & Sarah met Royston in late 2019 at the Young Adults' Group at St. Thomas More Catholic Church. They were instantly impressed by his guitar skills, and his desire to pursue God's will in his life. Originally from Malaysia, Royston felt called by God to serve Him in Canada, and in 2019 he moved to Edmonton. Presently, Royston is completing his Master's of Theology at Newman College and is also a youth minister at two churches. Adam & Sarah treasure many late-night friend gatherings at Royston's house filled with fellowship & prayer, guitar lessons & jam sessions, and delicious home-cooked Malaysian cuisine. Adam & Sarah are truly blessed to have Royston as their close friend!
Emily Willette

Sister of the Bride Emily is Sarah's best friend, partner in crime, and younger sister. Emily never fails to make Sarah (and others) laugh with her quick wit, and she has a huge, caring heart. Some of Sarah's treasured moments with Emily include their "Sister Trip" to Canmore in May 2021, studying together at the U of A, racing against each other in MarioKart Wii, cheering on the Oilers at hockey games, and helping each other with hair & makeup for various events. Emily is studying at the U of A to become a Medical Lab Tech, and she currently volunteers as the President of the Med Lab Students' Group. Sarah is so blessed to call Emily her sister, and Adam can't wait for Emily to be his sister-in-law!
Rony Romaya

Brother-in-Law of the Groom Rony married Adam's sister, Ewa, in July 2021 in the Ukrainian Catholic Church. A true "gentle giant", Rony works as a Team Leader supporting individuals with disabilities and their families. He also has a passion for sports, especially boxing. Rony has been warmly welcomed into the Makarewicz family; his presence and humor are always enjoyed at family dinners! Adam & Sarah are grateful to Rony & Ewa for their witness of sacramental marriage, and Adam is fortunate to have Rony as an awesome brother-in-law.
Ewa Romaya

Sister of the Groom Ewa is Adam's younger sister, the third of four Makarewicz siblings. Ewa completed her nursing degree in 2019 and currently works as a Home Care Nurse. In July 2021, she married Rony, and the two have a deep love for the Byzantine Rite. Ewa's warm and caring heart has made Sarah feel welcome in the Makarewicz family. Ewa has a strong devotion to St. Thérèse de Lisieux and is a talented baker, known for her amazing cakes. Adam & Sarah are grateful to Ewa & Rony for their witness of sacramental marriage, and Sarah is so excited to become Ewa's sister-in-law!
David Cholewa

Friend of the Bride & Groom Adam & David have known each other over the years through the Polish community, and they reconnected in 2019. Shortly after, David invited Adam to the Young Adults' Group at St Thomas More, where Sarah also met David. An accountant by day and a theologian by night, David is your go-to guy for any tax-related issue or question about the Catholic faith. His talents, however, extend past the books and, as a whiskey connoisseur, he is always ready to suggest a good drink on the rocks. David has a passion for the Traditional Latin Mass and is dedicated to reading and learning about the Catholic faith. Adam & Sarah are blessed to have David as their close pious friend.
Sara Dmitri

Friend of the Bride & Groom Adam & Sarah met Sara in late 2019 at the Young Adults' Group at St. Thomas More, where Sara led the Youth Ministry. Sarah & Sara quickly became close friends and have since shared many laughs, hugs, and heart-to-hearts. Sara completed a degree in Civil Engineering and recently finished an Education degree from King's College. In between degrees, she spent a year in Ireland as a NET missionary, where she encountered Christ and brought Him to others. Sara is gifted musically and artistically; she has a beautiful voice and creates handmade rosaries & Catholic jewellery. Sarah is grateful for the sisterhood she shares with Sara.
Ian Kienlen

Friend of the Groom Ian completed his Mechanical Engineering degree with Adam at the U of A in 2014. Their friendship was forged in their daily routine of lifting weights in the morning followed by 11-12 hours of study each day. Adam fondly remembers his first experience shooting a rifle with Ian - and Ian "complimented" Adam by saying "everyone gets lucky on their first shot". Adam is grateful for Ian's dependable and reliable character. In July 2020, Ian married his wife, Shonnica, and they recently became parents to their daughter. Adam is grateful for his decade-long friendship with Ian.
Jill Johansen

Friend of the Bride & Groom Sarah & Adam met Jill in early 2020 through the St Thomas More Young Adults' Group. During summer 2020, Sarah and Jill grew close as friends and deepened their faith through daily prayer, novenas, and veiling at Mass. Jill introduced Sarah to her famous peanut butter and jam sandwiches, which they enjoyed during picnics in the River Valley. Additionally, Jill is an avid hiker, rock climber, world-traveler, and she works as an elementary school teacher. Sarah is thankful for the strong friendship she shares with Jill!
Mitchell Eaton

Friend of the Groom Mitchell completed his Mechanical Engineering degree with Adam at the U of A in 2014. Mitchell distinguished himself in university as driven and very hard-working. These qualities served Mitchell well as he began a successful business which connects customers looking for 3D Printing and CNC services to a global network of manufacturers. Mitchell has a passion for mountain biking and enjoys the outdoors. Adam is grateful for his decade-long friendship with Mitchell.
Julianna Stern

Friend of the Bride Sarah met Julianna in 2016 during their first year of university at Campus Saint Jean (CSJ), the U of A's French campus. They quickly bonded over their shared dream of becoming doctors and their Christian faith. Julianna is very organized and detailed-oriented, traits which helped her succeed in completing her Master's of Public Health in April 2022. Julianna loves spending time outdoors, bird-watching, roller-blading, and back-country tenting. Sarah values the long-lasting friendship she has built with Julianna.
Andy Gabinet

Friend of the Groom Andy met Adam's younger brother, Marcin, in Kindergarten, and has since been considered as another son to the Makarewicz family. Andy took part in many Makarewicz family vacations: Vancouver Island 2009, Spain 2011, and Poland 2003 & 2008. Andy is a heavy-duty mechanic, and he works servicing heavy-duty equipment for a landscape company. Andy is creative, down-to-earth, and very computer-savvy. He is an entrepreneur at heart, always looking for the next start-up opportunity. Andy is a family man and always finds the time to help those he loves. Adam is grateful for the brotherhood he shares with Andy.
Taylor Williams

Cousin of the Bride Taylor is Sarah's younger (but taller!) cousin who is in Grade 9 and lives with her family in BC. Over the years, Sarah & Taylor have spent countless hours swimming and paddle-boating at One Island Lake in BC. In June 2019, Sarah had the honour of being Taylor's Confirmation sponsor. Taylor is a beautiful dancer, and she loves learning ballet, pointe, lyrical, tap, and jazz. Taylor also loves writing stories and reading Shakespeare. Sarah is grateful for the awesome relationship she has with her cousin-friend Taylor!
Matthew Williams

Cousin of the Bride Matthew is Sarah's cousin who is in Grade 7 and lives in BC with his family. Matthew loves quadding, hunting, fishing, and working with electrical gadgets and tools. Some of Sarah's favourite memories with Matthew include playing Mario games on the Wii with him when his family comes to visit Edmonton. Matthew is a whiz at Math, loves tackling his Rubik's cube, plays the guitar, and practices judo. Sarah is thankful for the great times she's spent with her cousin-friend Matthew!
Hannah Williams

Cousin of the Bride Hannah is Sarah's cousin who is in Grade 3 and lives in BC with her family. Hannah is a spunky young lady who loves making others laugh! She is a HUGE animal lover, and she wants to be a veterinarian when she's older. One of Sarah's favourite memories with Hannah is searching for worms under buckets at One Island Lake so Hannah could use them for fishing. Hannah also loves her fishing lures and her tackle box, practices judo, and she is learning to play the ukulele. Sarah is fortunate to have such a fun relationship with her cousin-friend Hannah!
