How We Met (As Told By Adam)

Just two wild kids finishing up the wildest experience of our lives: Whitewater. A small university town surrounded by corn fields; the start to any true romantic tale. Nina and I knew there was something there the night we met. We had a spark that others around us predicted long before we introduced ourselves. She was the ultimate Frisbee loving communications major, and I was "the cute Jimmy John's delivery driver". The night I officially met my future wife was much like any other. We spent time with the friends we had grown to love in the town that felt like home. One thing was different though. For the first time, confidence with a stranger felt new. I felt like I knew Nina, and we understood each other almost immediately. The group departed and dispersed, many heading to bed. Nina and I were not ready for that inevitable fate. Looking at the beautiful woman I had only recently met, I asked her if she would like to head out and grab a 6 pack and come back to a now empty college house living room to spend time getting to know each other. Without hesitation, Nina's face lit up like it always does when she becomes excited for an adventure. The two of us spent several hours diving into our colorful personalities, sharing laughs and stories deep into the night. Everything felt right. While we might not be the biggest believers in love at first sight, there is something to be said about the fact we became inseparable from that night forward.

The Night We Got Engaged (As Told By Nina)

I was suspicious, yet never saw it coming. Adam had been acting quite "lovey-dovey" over the last several weeks which caused my mind to wander. We started the day at Festa Italiana downtown Milwaukee with my family, and after a few hours of eating rice balls, watching canoli-eating contests and sliding down mega slides, I was cranky, tired and wanted to sprawl out on the couch and call it a night. Little did I know that this day would change my life. After some nagging (because I felt like something was up), Adam confessed that he had a little surprise for me later that night, but I needed to stop probing for clues. Later that evening, we drove downtown and walked to Pierre-Marquette Park where a boat was waiting to take us on cruise through the river to watch a fireworks display over Lake Michigan. We were having a relaxing night, sipping on wine out of plastic cups and gazing at the dark water, but I felt like something may be coming. The thought crossed my mind if he would propose during the fireworks, but then I quickly dismissed it because there were so many strangers around on the crowded boat, and Adam knew that's something I would hate. Once I dismissed the possibility of a proposal that night, I shared with Adam how my coworkers were teasing me about how Adam would propose soon due to some of his recent *questionable* behavior - we'll save that story for the wedding! Adam played along and responded with some "yeahs" and some "hahas" knowing all along that it would be very soon. Once the boat docked back at the pier, Adam asked if I wanted to cut across the grassy area to the street. I agreed, and as we were strolling along holding hands, Adam slows down and tells me "You know Nina, you should really listen to your coworkers every once in a while..". Before I had the chance to interpret what he had just said, Adam was already down on one knee asking if I would be his wife.

For all the days along the way
