We matched on bumble (September 11, 2018) and chatted for a while but lost contact after a few weeks. Around the middle of October Meredith was gearing up for a shoulder surgery and Adam thought it was the perfect time to reach back out! After some healing from surgery we set out to meet at Black Sheep Social Club in Cedar Rapids, Iowa on November 9!
It was a warm summer day and we decided to go for a little hike! Our favorite spot at the time Palisades Park was closed from Derecho damage. So we set out to another spot (now our favorite) Woodpecker Trail. It was a little farther but had longer trails and more water to look at. Meredith’s inner jersey girl will always be attracted to spots with water. As they were walking they spotted a lookout over the Iowa river. Meredith walked to the end and sat at the edge. Adam panicked she would fall and decided that it wasnt the best time to ask in order to avoid any falls or ring drops! Once she was off the ledge Adam asked to take a picture. Meredith turned around to get ready for the picture and Adam dropped to one knee and popped the question! We are not sure what he said we were both just so excited/nervous!😂
As Adam left Williamsburg for Cedar Rapids on November 9, 2018 I was sitting at Jackie’s waiting to leave for Black Sheep. Not to Jackie’s surprise I turned to her and said “I’m not going”. Which she replied with “You have to. He already left”. A little more back and forth and I was on my way, late, but on my way. It’s not that I didn’t want to go on the date with Adam its that I didn’t want to go on an awkward first date. They always made me nervous. Adam and I will both tell you our first date wasn’t perfect and it didnt blow others out of the water but to our very happy surprise it was our last first date. A few awkward moments the date was over and I was headed back to Jackie’s. As I told her about the date and how he was a gentleman that when he walked me to my car he asked to give me a hug. (if you know me you know im not fond of hugs and having someone ask before just going in for a hug meant A LOT!!) It was then that I thought I didn’t even say thank you. Panicked I had blown any chance Jackie calmly told me to just call him and apologize. So I did. He answered and as I was apologizing I realized the connection was poor and he had misheard what I said. He thought that I was upset I didn’t split the bill with him. He then said “No worries you can get the next date. Ill text you when Im home”. Stunned and confused I looked at Jackie and we just started laughing at whatever had just happened and she just said “Guess you have another date!” We asked Jackie to officiate our wedding because we wanted someone close to us that knew our story and was there from the beginning to tell it. Since our second date (a hawkeye basketball game who for those of you dont know is his favorite team) Adam and I have been inseparable. Thank you to Jackie for giving me that extra bit of confidence to get me to that date. We know we were made for each other and that you play an important part in our love story.
