How We Met

We met in church. Online. In a computer game.

Once upon a time in a game called Second Life, Medina was invited to church. Not having anything better to do after going to church in person, she said, "Sure, why not?" and started attending. After the services, she hung out with others from the church and made new friends. A little while later, Adam was invited to the church as well. Out of sheer boredom, he said, "Sure, why not?" and started attending. He stuck around after services to nerd out on theological discussions while Medina mostly zoned out. Medina was drawn to Adam's voice but thought he might be too academic for her. Adam thought Medina seemed nice but kind of quiet and uninterested. Eventually, the group took their conversation outside the game and mostly consisted of Adam and Medina responding to each other. Medina decided to contact Adam directly. So, on June 15, 2021, she reached out to Adam with what she thought was going to be a short conversation. The two have talked every day since - first in texting, then in phone calls, and finally meeting in person over Labor Day weekend. The distance was hard but worth it.

The Proposal

December 25, 2022 --- But it really started at Thanksgiving.

The Saturday after Thanksgiving found Medina out and about with her dad. A family friend asked her when she was going to get married. Uncertain but amused, she relayed the question to Adam. He asked what she was doing September 30th, to which she responded, "Getting married?" So he bought her a ring that night. Adam invited Medina to the Christmas Eve service at his church, but his plans to ask her to be his bride beforehand were foiled by early arrivers. Not one to give up easily, he continued to bide his time. Medina, completely oblivious to the conundrum, met the rest of his family for the first time later that evening. Their welcome was warm and came with a few not-so-subtle hints that a certain finger was still missing a ring. Adam patiently waited until Christmas day when he could finally get Medina alone. As the sun was setting and the room filled with the light from the Christmas Tree, Adam got on his knees and asked her to marry him. Obviously, Medina said yes!
