Good Question! There are many ways to arrive in Polignano a Mare. Plane: Fly to Rome (or another European city) and take a connecting flight to Bari or Brindisi. There are then many train, bus and car options to Polignano a Mare from either airport. Car: You can fly to Rome, rent a car, and drive through the beautiful countryside. On our previous visit, Lucy and I rented a car from Rome and drove south toward Naples and east to Polignano a Mare in an afternoon. It's about a 6 hour car ride from Rome and we only got in one fight along the way! Train: If arriving in Rome, you can take a train to Bari and then on to Polignano a Mare. Train travel within Europe, from almost any city, is the most cost effective option. Walk: That's ambitious, but if you want to walk from Rome we'll all join you for a celebratory spritz when you arrive!
When scheming an upcoming trip, we use flight tracking apps like Hopper and Kayak to alert us to price predictions. You can set a number of alerts for various cities and dates and be alerted when prices are predicted to rise or drop. We'll probably set price alerts in the New Year and book our tickets in March-ish When looking for cost savings while flying from the US, we'd suggest first exploring flights to a large Europe city, like London, Paris or Amsterdam, and then looking at options to Bari or Brindisi. Searching for flights directly from the midwest to Bari or Brindisi will likely result in the most expensive flight path. Instead, you could try Kansas City ---> New York/Chicao, New York/Chicago--> Rome/Amsterdam/Paris or any other large city you want to visit. Kayak has a great Explore feature where you can see the most affordable flights from your departure city to cities all over Europe/the world. Maybe you want to check out Dublin, London, Lisbon, or Barcelona for a few days and then fly to Bari, for example. Flights within Europe are usually less expensive than domestic US flights, and train travel is likely even cheaper.
Our wedding venue is in the beautiful Hotel Covo dei Sarceni. It's centrally located in Polignano a Mare and overlooks the famous cliffside beach on the Adriatic sea. If you stay there you'll have easy access to the wedding and stumbling back to bed afterwards--bonus! On the wedding day please wear something semi formal. We have no preference of color or style. Beyond the wedding day, we're hopeful for nice weather and sun! The Puglia region is premier beach territory for Europeans, so we'd recommend packing comfortable, warm weather clothing, and a swim suit! You'll probably be doing a fair amount of walking on your trip, so shoot for comfortable footwear as much a possible. Hopefully it wont be necessary, but you could consider packing a rain jacket.
We're far from experts, but here are some tips that could be helpful: If you don't have a passport or need to renew yours before next June, we'd recommend doing this ASAP. US passport services are famously slow and any delay in receiving this documentation can be very stress-inducing! Ahead of our last trip to Italy, it took over 8 months for Lucy to receive her new passport--yikes! On the topic of passports, don't loose yours while abroad! Our strategy is to leave important items securely in our hotel as someone is much more likely to loose or have something stolen while out and about. But choose your own adventure! Buy a SIM card from a local carrier when you arrive. They are relatively easy to pop in and out of your phone and they will save you the daily charge from US carriers. A European SIM card with unlimited data will last a week or two, and eliminating data constraints will make your trip in any international country much easier. Arrive early! We're all aware that airline travel during the busy seasons can be hectic. The Puglia region is popular for beach goers during the summer months, and while we're hopeful to avoid the high crowds of July and August, it will be best to be prepared for delays to and from Italy. Pack light. We know it's hard, but bringing few items of excess will make your trip easier, we promise! Learn a little Italian! You'll find many English speakers throughout your trip, but learning a few simple words is a kind gesture and can go a long way when interacting with locals. Plus, Italian is THE MOST fun language to speak. Be mindful of pick-pockets. While we've thankfully never had an issue, petty left is always something to be aware of. Do not leave bags where they can be easily snatched, and keep pockets zipped and secured.
As much as we'd love to accommodate everyone, we have finalized the guest list and do not have any extra spots for plus ones. If a plus one has been extended to you, their name is listed alongside yours on the invitation. We appreciate you understanding and can't wait to celebrate with you!
We love all the kiddos, however we have extended invitations only to the adults listed on your invitation. We hope you understand and use this evening as an opportunity to enjoy a romantic night out with your significant other. Our wedding planner can help with babysitting services for the evening if that is needed. Please reach out to us if that is the case!
