Flight
The closest Airport to Heidelberg is Frankfurt am Main/Frankfurt International. We advise everyone to try to fly to this airport, especially those flying from the US. An alternative option is Stuttgart, but the train options to Heidelberg include a few more changes. There are 2 airports that may pop up as a suggestion to fly to Heidelberg: Frankfurt Hahn and Karlsruhe. They are both very small airports with minimal transit links so we would advise against flying to these airports, but if you do we would suggest you also look at car rentals. There are taxi services available around the clock at both terminals and the train station that can take you to Heidelberg but the journey will roughly be the same amount of time as the train and fairly expensive which is why we recommend taking the train.

Travel Note
After our wedding, our wedding planner will be calling taxis to get everyone home. But if you are in Heidelberg earlier in the week and want to get to and from the hotel, it's easiest to find taxis at these locations in Heidelberg: - Heidelberg Hauptbahnhof (the main train station) - Bismarckplatz - Universitätsplatz - Heidelberg Altstadt train station Cash is king in Germany, so we'd recommend taking some cash out for taxis and other activities when you arrive in Heidelberg. We've also been told that Uber has recently started operating in Heidelberg, and there is also another Uber-equivalent called FreeNow that you may be able to use.
