We're married! Let's celebrate!

On June 22, 2021, we had our dream wedding in Bald Head Island, North Carolina. Almost 17 years after meeting, and 11 years after becoming a couple during our senior year of high school, we had a beautiful wedding surrounded by immediate family with our two brothers, David and Brian, officiating the ceremony. Bald Head Island is a place that has a very special meaning to both of us and we couldn't have been more grateful to celebrate our love surrounded by family at our dream destination in the height of COVID. While we had known each other since starting the sixth grade at Pyle Middle School in 2006, it wasn't until sophomore year of high school that we became closer friends. Guess where it happened? Band! Between Symphonic Band and Jazz Band, Emily, the percussionist, always sat right behind Adam in the trumpet section. In August of 2010, Emily once again sat behind Adam in Calculus class and the magic began. It allowed us to have the same lunch period where we would go to each other’s houses for quick meals between classes. Emily was fascinated at the idea that Adam always had pasta in his fridge. What else does a woman want? After a trip to laser tag on September 11, 2010 with a group of friends, Adam sealed the deal and got in trouble for breaking curfew (sorry, Michael and Rhoda). We still consider this our anniversary in many ways, even after getting engaged, married, etc. Adam soon asked Emily to homecoming and forgot the corsage, but made it up by wrapping his car keys/lanyard around Emily’s wrist. We spent this last year of high school doing everything together - Adam attended Emily’s concerts and recitals, Emily watched Adam’s lacrosse games, and we weathered the 15 hour bus ride to Disney World for our last high school band trip side by side. At the end of the year Adam broke into Emily’s car to put together an elaborate promposal. This time he remembered the corsage. We never intended on going to the same college. Adam headed off to Franklin and Marshall College in Lancaster, PA and Emily to the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, NY. We grew and became our own people throughout these four years, and supported each other’s individual journey throughout our time long distance. One of the staples of our relationship is that we always allowed each other to grow even when we were apart, knowing that we were still right there to support. Adam decided to go as far as possible for his study abroad program in New Zealand, but this worked out in Emily’s favor as she was able to spend a month traveling the country with him when her school year wrapped up. As soon as Emily returned home from her student teaching in Rochester, we moved in together in Cleveland Park, DC where we stayed for the next six years. Adam found his passion in the solar industry and Emily continued to do what she loved teaching music in MCPS and at Maret School. We traveled domestically and took international trips to Ireland, Scotland, Berlin, and Prague. In December of 2019, Emily caught a bad case of the flu, though Adam insisted that they go on a trip to Ft. Lauderdale for a change of scenery. Adam then caught the flu, and we were miserable together in a beautiful beachside resort. On New Year’s Eve, Adam presented Emily with a scrapbook of pictures from their nine years together and popped the question right before midnight. Of course she said yes. Since our wedding in June of 2021, we moved into our home in Takoma Park. We love hosting and barbecuing for friends on our smoker. We’ve taken up gardening and have made full use of our amazing kitchen. We even converted the basement into a private music studio. After almost 14 years together, just about half of our lives, we are so excited to celebrate with extended family and friends this April!
