How We Met

September 19th, 2023

Christina and Adam were officially introduced on September 19th, 2023, the way most people are introduced in the 2020's: on a dating app. Christina stumbled across Adam's profile and found him to be so humorous and charming, particularly the fact that he enjoyed long romantic walks in Costco, but also just because of how he talked about being involved with his church and Sunday school. Christina sent a "wave." Adam received an email notification that someone had "waved" at him, so the first moment he could, he opened the app and went to investigate. "Wow," he thought, "who is this incredible girl and what on earth is she doing 'waving' at me?" Looking through her profile, Adam couldn't help but be stunned by how beautiful and amazing this girl was. Pharmacist, awesome; 4 foot 10 inches, adorable; Oriental Orthodox, don't know what THAT is. The only hurdle was her location: Michigan. Approximately 400 miles away. This was a long shot, but he sent a message. That first message was on a Tuesday evening. By Friday afternoon, Adam was talking to a friend about her. "Am I going insane? This girl is perfect, everything I've ever wanted, she's incredible... but she lives in Michigan. How is this possibly going to work?" Still, he had to try. She was too wonderful a person to let slip away. The following Tuesday, one week after connecting on the app--their first "FaceTime" date. It was also the night Adam booked his first trip and hotel room to Michigan to visit Christina for the first time. It's hard to tell exactly how long that FaceTime conversation lasted. Or the one the next night. Or the next night. It was long enough for AirPods to die multiple times. Every night. Adam knew immediately, in that first week, this was going to be the woman he would spend his life with. Christina knew too, and she wasn't shy about showing it. It felt crazy to think like that after one week. Rom-Coms aren't real life, fairy tales don't exist, almost no women are literal princesses and practically no men are Prince Charming on a white stallion... but that's what this was. At least, that's what it felt like to both Adam and Christina. When it's from God, it's perfect. There is no other way to explain this relationship other than a perfect gift from God. Adam and Christina each prayed for the other, and had no idea who they were praying for. They were each the most unlikely person for the other to fall in love with, but because this was crafted by God, it never felt imperfect. We hope you will join us on this day, almost one year from the day we first met, to not only celebrate love and a holy union, but to celebrate a true gift from God and all His blessings.
