Batiquitos Lagoon Trail
Fish fly out of the water constantly at this lagoon. If you're looking for a solid trail that is most beautiful in the sunlight, head here! Great place to take a walk--plus, it's right next to the Aviara golf course if you want to pop in to the restaurant on site and grab a drink after!
Barrel Republic Carlsbad

Adam and I just stumbled upon this hidden gem near our home in Vista, but technically, it resides in San Marcos. Drive up a hill and taste some wine while overlooking the hills of San Marcos. Live music and pizza--won't disappoint!
Oceanside Pier
If you're heading back up north on the 5 freeway, Oceanside is a great coastal town to stop in. You can walk the beach, browse the restaurants and shops and/or take in the sunset.
