The Story of Us

Aunna and I met on the first Saturday of November 2022 – our best friend Paige (Christiaanse) Doak knew we were both running the Monumental Half Marathon in Indianapolis (where Aunna lives) and recommended we get lunch together after the race. We ate at The Garage (a food court), took a selfie (see Gallery), and left knowing we gained a new friend and that the wind and rain had won the race that day. We stayed in touch via Paige in 2023 and 2024, with our only in-person interactions in December of both years when Aunna visited Greenville, SC (where Adam lives) for her birthday. The visit in 2023 was highlighted by a couple of game nights (we love game nights!) in large part because of another rainy weekend. I sent her a hand-written birthday/Christmas/thank you card after this visit (also sending mixed signals) because my emotional love tank was so full from all the quality time together. The 2024 visit is when my heart started to stir for Aunna – I spent the entire weekend with her and the Doaks (Matt and Paige) creating wonderful memories like: Paige and I surprising Aunna at a Christmas Market with birthday cake and cookies courtesy of Aunna’s mom, using matches as birthday candles, hiking at Paris Mountain, and deploying magnet men on all the Doak’s air vents. My emotional love tank again overflowed into another hand-written card, which led to FaceTiming a few times in December 2024 before I finally asked her out on January 5th. We’ve had many “God winks” in our relationship, including: our first virtual date where we watched the movie The Fugitive (one of my favorites) on Paige’s birthday (January 20) and the movie opens with a scene from January 20th; our first in-person date was on Aunna’s dad’s birthday (Groundhog Day) (where our first kiss came in the Buc-ee’s parking lot in Richmond, Kentucky); and after proposing at Paris Mountain on June 19th, our daily devotional together was Proverbs 18 where verse 22 states, “He who finds a wife finds a good thing and obtains favor from the Lord.” Long distance has not been ideal, but Jesus has sustained us through virtual dates (watching movies, making brownies, playing Battleship), in-person dates every 3-4 weeks (Greenville, Indianapolis, Knoxville, middle-of-nowhere Kentucky), and many prayers from everyone reading this. Thank you for those prayers, for reading these words, and being part of our story. We hope you’ll help fill our emotional love tanks by joining us for another “God wink” as we marry on the first Saturday of November 2025.
