In January 2020, Amity and Adam met up for their first date for tacos. After a mostly successful first date, with just a botched first kiss, their second date went even better. That is, after Adam realized his friends were in town and had to reschedule. With a third date, an amazing set of caesar salad, and some vulnerable moments of honesty and shared laughs, Amity and Adam knew that they really liked each other. More shared tender moments, laughs and tears bonded them tightly together. Their relationship grew, and even as uncertainty in the world around them developed, their certainty for their feelings and commitment to each other flourished. When they weren’t sure how safe it would be for Adam’s family to be at the store, Amity got groceries and supplies with him. As unlikely a place as Meijer would be the place to fall in love, watching Amity searching for the right dog food for what would one day be her sister in law’s pups, Adam knew right then his heart was taken by this girl. As the world became even more unpredictable, with “I love you’s” exchanged, in May 2020, they moved in with each other to face anything and everything the best way they could: together. With the independence and relentlessness of the beautiful Amity Calhoun and the patience and understanding of Adam Burl, they found their puzzle pieces fit together perfectly. Although, there was one more piece to make that complete. After a fun, but sun-burned filled and exhausting Fourth of July trip, Amity discovered the world's cutest pitbull from Detroit Dog Rescue. Although Adam had plans on waiting a few more months to get a dog, once they saw him, they knew they had to have him. Just a few days later, Max was adopted and became a part of the crew. Joining them on roadtrips, naptime with cozy blankets, and lots of walks, Max gave Amity and Adam so much love, and the family became complete. Over the next year, their love for each other grew. With each passing day, each new joyful experience, came the knowledge that they would spend the rest of their lives together. They just needed one more thing to make it official: a ring.

Adam planned the perfect proposal for months; finding the right ring was his first priority. Week after week looking at ring sites, sending her friends on secret missions to find out exactly what she wanted. After gathering all of his intel and making gathering their shared love of space, Adam found the perfect ring with a stone first found in meteorites, moissanite. Now to plan for the actual day. Adam knew he had to do something big. Their shared love for solving things, secret agents, and escape rooms meant one thing; Adam had to send Amity on a mission. The most stressful month of planning in Adam's life led up to the final big day, November 20th, 2021. But he knew he couldn't do this on his own. He enlisted the help of his sister, Darla, Amity's two best friends Jess and Madison, and two of his best friends, Mallory and Randy. Together, they would ensure the successful completion of Operation: Atomic Friendship. While Amity went out to brunch with Jess in downtown Detroit, Agents Randy and Mallory started doing surveillance and start taking photos of what would be the 2 hour operation. During this time as well, Adam and Madison drove around town strategically placing envelopes across Detroit for Amity to find. As Amity got her check at the restaurant, the waiter delivered her an envelope that said “Agent Calhoun” and inside was a set of clues pointing to her first destination of the mission. From the spots of their first date, to phone calls with family and friends, even picking up treats for their dog Max, Amity traveled with Jess all over Detroit solving clues having to do with Adam and Amity’s relationship and inching closer to her final destination. At one point one miscommunication even caused Amity to start chasing down the "spy-looking" Randy and Mallory who were photographing the whole thing. Shortly after, she was given one of the last clues that led her to the Madison building. Awaiting there for her was none other than her friend Madison. With the three friends united, they made their way up to the rooftop for their final clue. Standing on the rooftop overlooking Downtown Detroit and Comerica Park, Darla greeted Amity as she came up through the elevator. Alongside her was the cutest boi in the world, Max eagerly waiting in his tuxedo for his mom. To get her last clue, she would have to pay off Agent Max with a treat, which he gladly gave up from his collar. As Amity solved the final clue, Adam rose from behind the corner playing and singing “Can’t Help Falling in Love” on his Ukulele. As he walked toward Amity, he forgot the words, tears welled in his eyes, and together they were both overwhelmed by the moment. When Adam finished the song, the speech that he had prepared so long for, in that moment, disappeared. All he could think of was how much he loved the woman in front of him. So after a few brief words, he got down on one knee surrounded by Jess, Madison, Randy, Mallory and Darla, and asked Amity to marry him. She said yes! Holding Max’s leash in one hand, and having a ring placed on the other, the two embraced and kissed. Taking pictures as the sun set on Detroit, the two called their friends and family and spent the rest of the night enjoying the company of their friends and each other.
