It all began at St. Olaf College.

Abbey and Adam were both doing research at St. Olaf College during the summer. They both would run in the mornings to start their day. Not wanting to run alone, Abbey asked a mutual friend, Brian, if she could join him and Adam. Adam was slightly hesitant, so he agreed to running together on Tuesday mornings. Their friendship grew with each mile.

Brian, Adam, and Abbey decided to grab lunch to catch up during the first week of school. Unfortunately, Brian said he had too much homework, so he couldn't join them. Abbey and Adam had fun catching up and seeing each other again. Later that week, Adam and the Junior cross country runners lost the annual St. Olaf Cross Country bowling competition. The tradition is to have the winners tell the losers who to buy flowers for on a Friday. The team had an inkling that shy Adam really liked Abbey. The next Friday, she found flowers from Adam in her mailbox. The rest is history.

After college, Abbey attended medical school at the University of Minnesota and Adam worked towards a Ph.D. in mathematics at the University of Iowa. A distance relationship taught them the importance of communication skills. They are very thankful for technology and cars. In addition to outdoor activities, cooking, games, and lots of studying, they had many good runs and walks together around Como Lake, the same lake Abbey went to with her parents as a baby.

On their 5th anniversary of dating, Adam got Friday flowers from St. Olaf to surprise Abbey after work. Later that weekend, he proposed during a walk at Como Lake in the brisk Fall weather and intermittent hail.

After 7 years of knowing each other, they will be getting married in Abbey's home town. The date of their wedding is the same date that Adam's grandparents (Bill and Carol Lamm) got married. Their reception is in the same room as Abbey's parents' (Eric and Leah Schnaith) wedding reception. They can't wait to celebrate their marriage with friends and family.
