Nichole and Adam met at a mutual high school teacher's retirement party in 2013 and went on a few dates, but the timing wasn't quite right. A year later, the couple reunited at a mutual friend's house for a graduation party and began dating again soon after. In 2015, they moved in together, adopted a feral kitten, and dreamed of their future together.

Before their engagement, Nichole and Adam often went on dates to the Mission Inn and the surrounding area in Riverside, CA. Adam thought it would be the perfect place to pop the question. So, after returning from a trip to Arizona, the couple paid an impromptu visit to the mission. As they roamed around, Adam searched for the ideal spot — but it took a while because they got lost. Eventually, upon finding a secluded area, Adam paused and said, "So I was wondering..." and he pulled out the ring. Giggling with laughter, Nichole said, "Yes! Finally!"
