After I didnt notice Adam for one and a half years while playing on our company slowpitch softball team, I finally got to work with him as an apprentice. It took a lot of work from our friends to get the two of us together. At our 2018 company christmas party, a friend of ours asked me why I wasnt trying to get to know Adam. This was the moment I first took notice of him because even though I had worked with him, I still had no idea he was interested. On his end, it took a group of his friends to get the first text sent out. Lance knew the passcode to his phone. Heather typed the message out and passed the phone to Andy who pressed send. They asked me to watch hockey. Unfortunately, I was scheduled to have my gall bladder out the following week and fly out to Oregon to recover with family for the following 3 weeks. Instead of jumping straight into dating, we chatted every day I was in Oregon. Shared pictures and travel bucket lists. When I finally made it back to Iowa it was easy to go on that first date. We planned to go to the batting cages together. We met at the cages in 11 inches of snow. After realizing the cages were closed, we dropped off my car and went out for dinner. After, we drove around in the snow looking at all of the holiday lights. Post poned our batting cages date for the following day, and we have spent every weekend together since.
I woke up on just a regular Sunday. We had been scheduled to take a flight in a hot air balloon at 10 am that morning. Adam had called me 4 weeks prior to ask me if he should snag some tickets our friends posted on Facebook. She had “won them” at work but her husband refused to go up so she was “giving them away.” I was completely surprised because I thought he had just happened upon these tickets. In reality, Adam had been working with most of our softball friends to keep the secret from me. When I got up that morning to get ready, I decided to curl my hair. Turned my straightener up a few notches and had the best hair day of my life. We got to Indianola for a 3 pm flight, and met our flight instructor. Watched as they pulled out the balloons and saw how much work it took to take flight. Up in the air, Adam tapped me in the back about 20 minutes in to our flight. I, thinking Adam wanted a picture of me since my hair was looking so good, turned around to be completely surprised when Adam had a ring and asked me to marry him. He picked the ring out himself and it is perfect and beautiful and hand picked with love. Back on the ground I learned my whole family was in on it too. My mother had been screening my calls because my dad and sister knew she would not be able to keep the secret. Adam had called them up to ask their permission as soon as he bought the ring.
