How We Met

Before it was an app...

Adam and Dan first met through the online dating site, Match.com. Yes, well before it was an app on a cell phone and way before any of the current dating apps that exist today. After chatting via the site, then email, texts, and phone calls, our first date was at Harry & Sons (an awesome sushi site that's no longer there) in Virginia Highland. It was a cold and rainy November night. Adam was of course responsible and carried an umbrella, but no one remembers what Adam was wearing. We're all fairly certain it was hip and cool, but Dan? Unforgettable. Dan donned a blue jean jacket, a jaunty cap, and a fitted Buddha t-shirt (note second appearance in the sweet proposal). We had a tasty meal and a nice night with fun conversation that ended with our first kiss. Dan gave Adam a ride to his car in his massive truck (that had to go because it was way too big for city driving). The rest is history! Thanks, Match.com!

The Proposal

The second appearance...

Well he FINALLY did it! Dan proposed to Adam on Thanksgiving Day, November 28, 2019, and he did it right. It was perfect. The family was present and before the great feast began, Dan asked Adam to join the family circle so Adam's Dad could say Grace. Dan began to speak and address all the family in the room, sharing what each member meant to them and how they have positively shared as part of their foundation. It took Adam a minute to process what was taking place as he couldn't get past the fact that Dan was speaking 'publicly.' That never happens! A very sweet moment occurred as Dan thanked Adam's parents for accepting him as a son as they quickly replied, "it's been easy." Dan did a wonderful job including his three exceptional children with the proposal. To everyone's surprise, as Dan mentioned the first date, he points across the room to his boys - one now wearing the jaunty cap from that magical evening and the other slowly unbuttoning his shirt to reveal the Buddha t-shirt. So awesome. Again, perfect. Well done. So, how was the only daughter included? Well, she had the ring hidden in her sock. Once more, perfect. Adam couldn't believe it when Dan knelt to one knee, but a quick 'YES' was announced, followed by a hug and a kiss. It's a day they'll never forget.
