While in school, they both took a chance in online dating. After a few months of trying, Brie was getting discouraged but decided to check her Coffee Meets Bagel account on October 1st, 2017, and she's thankful everyday that she did. That day, Aaron was a suggested bagel. Someone who was outside her location range, but had liked her. Early conversations proved they had a lot in common - video games, strong family ties, music tastes. From there, they moved to communicating daily on Snapchat and have been together since.
Brie went up to visit Wausau and meet Aaron's family for their fourth date. After a lovely chat discussing Aaron and his childhood with his family, Brie and Aaron had a moment alone. Aaron used this opportunity to ask "Will you be my girlfriend?" and, of course, Brie said "yes!"
In June of 2020, Aaron and Brie moved to Iowa City, IA for Aaron's residency at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics. Neither of them had lived more than 20 minutes from home their whole lives, so this was a big adjustment. Luckily, Aaron and Brie mesh so well that the transition was almost seamless (aside from some homesickness). After over 2 years of long distance, being together every morning when they get up and every night when they go to sleep is the best.
While on a trip to Wausau to celebrate Aaron's birthday, he popped the question atop Rib Mountain. It was a cloudy and overcast day. The freezing rain from the night below made the walk from the car to the outlook point very interesting. Brie even slid down a little hill on her butt in order to avoid falling. When she turned around from watching a small girl attempt to ski, Aaron was on his knee and asked Brie to marry him. Of course, she said yes! Even though it wasn't exactly what Aaron had planned, it was perfectly imperfect and they wouldn't change it for anything.
