Love Thy NeighborLove Thy Neighbor

Sometimes love shows up on your doorstep.

After COVID, Heather realized her life in Pennsylvania hadn’t changed much. She was still a homebody, still comfortably tucked inside her comfort zone. So she packed up her apartment, put everything in storage, and hit the road with her dog, Gidget, staying in Airbnbs while figuring out where to start her next chapter. Charlotte was her final stop. She found a rental she loved but worried the neighborhood might be too quiet, until she saw a curly-haired guy walking his dog and stopped to ask how he liked living there. “It’s great, lots of people our age,” he said. That was all it took. They didn’t speak again for months, but every time she saw him, she’d think, “That’s the guy who made me feel okay about moving here.” Eventually, they got to talking. Talking turned into friendship. Friendship turned into something more. They went on their first date exactly one year after Heather moved to Charlotte. They moved in together exactly two years after she arrived, with no moving truck, just a million little trips down the street on foot. These days, they share a home filled with laughter, YouTube Shorts, celebratory burger dates, trying new coffee shops, and two very spoiled dogs, Gidget and Sasha, who are pretty convinced they run the place. Bryan is the dreamer, and Heather is the realist. He’s always five ideas ahead, and she’s making sure the current one stays on track. Together, they’re planning what’s next and loving the everyday moments in between. It all started with a girl brave enough to say hi, and a guy who gave her the nudge she didn’t know she needed, exactly when she needed it.
