How We Met

8 years in the making.

You read that right! We're taking this way back to 2012 at Conestoga High School, although I would not call us "high school sweethearts". Actually when I was a freshman, Ryan a sophomore (of course I would go for an older guy) we shared a couple eye glances, flirtatious chats, and dances at the FFA convention. He was really better friends with Kalby, so nothing really took off until I was graduating high school and one night Ryan reached out to me with a friendly "hey :)". I still remember that night. I told myself I wasn't going to be in a relationship going into college, but God had a bigger plan for both of us. 8 years later, we are finally becoming one.

The Proposal

10/12/2019

It was your typical Midwest Fall day. Combines were in the fields and the temperature was a sunny 60 degrees. I hadn't had the chance to have any harvest time yet since I lived in Fremont and Ryan works two jobs on top of farming. So I was determined to hang out with Ryan in the combine that Saturday night. Our current career/life situation wasn't perfect for getting married but we had goals for a house and everything else so I think we kind of knew when the time was right, everything would fall into place, and it sure has. So I stopped at a friend's baby shower before heading to Ryan's. He was worried I was going to be late and "we wouldn't be able to see each other before the sun went down." so he told me. I thought that was a little weird but he's cute like that sometimes and it is true. With our work schedules, we really only see each other at night. So I got to his parents house about an hour before the sun set, since they were just in the field to the East. His mom, Mary ended up driving me out there and she was cool as a cucumber, not giving anything away. Clay, his brother then picked me up in the JD tractor to take me out to Ryan in the combine. As we were approaching the combine, Clay radio's over to Ryan "hey I think there's something wrong with the blah blah mechanic thing. That's not good." So naturally we both stopped. I went over and climbed on up into the combine, passing Ryan, said hi and sat down to get comfortable because I didn't know how long they were going to take to look at whatever. As I turned back around in the buddy seat to face the door, Ryan was down on one knee, and popped the question. The sun was setting just over the terrace and I don't think I stopped smiling all night. We called our close family and friends who were all at a wedding. They rushed home and we celebrated all night long. I guess the combine could wait. We're so excited to celebrate this next chapter in our lives with you. See you in August!
