ORANGE JUICE & AMBULANCES → FOREVER

We met in the summer of 2022 at the Cataldo base in Malden. Abby noticed Ryan right away—quietly off to the side, completely absorbed in his Nintendo Switch—but somehow, we didn’t actually talk. That changed on a call. Abby was driving, Ryan was in the back doing his thing, and let’s just say… the ride wasn’t exactly smooth. Brakes were hit, Ryan went flying (along with the IV he was holding), a few words were exchanged, and Abby couldn’t stop laughing. Not exactly a textbook first impression—but definitely a memorable one. A few weeks later, we ran into each other again at Hugh O’Neill’s. Ryan walked right up, dipped his finger into Abby’s drink, and asked, “What does that taste like?” Bold strategy—and somehow, it worked. We spent the rest of the night talking, ended up back at a friend’s place, shared an Uber home, and by the next day, Ryan had invited himself to Friendsgiving at the lake house. From that point on, we were pretty much inseparable. The very next morning, Ryan showed up with orange juice—completely unprompted—which felt like a small but very telling moment: he was already taking care of Abby in the simplest, sweetest way. Since then, life has been a bit of a whirlwind—in the best way. Apartments, adventures, long shifts, hard days, a growing home, and a growing life together. Through it all, we’ve always had each other’s backs, even if we’ve agreed we’re probably better off not working in the same ambulance. What started as chaos and questionable decision-making somehow turned into something steady, supportive, and full of laughter—and we wouldn’t have it any other way.
