The Story of Us

Spring of 2023, I (Abigail) was working as a barista at the cutest french bakery and cafè in Chattanooga: Niedlovs. It was just another busy afternoon for me when Miles walked up to place a lunch order. My dear friend and co-worker Shannon Stewart was taking his order, and asked if he’d like a coffee. “No thank you”, he replied sweetly, explaining that he’s trying to steer clear from caffeine for the time being. At this point, I stepped over from the espresso machine to insert myself into the conversation, (and to maybe flirt just a little). “Have you ever tried a matcha?” I asked. I explained it wasn’t quite as much caffeine as a coffee and just as good as a latte in my opinion. He told us that he had not, so I offered to make him one to try. On the house, obviously. He agreed with a smile, and continued to chat while I made his drink. Once I handed it to him, he thanked me and asked for my name. “Wonderful to meet you, Abigail! Hopefully I’ll see you around!” Now I was a little nervous. I felt as if I had gone a bit out of the way to shoot my shot and was unsure if he had gotten the memo or was simply uninterested. I spent the next couple days hoping he’d come in. Four days later and he was back! This time, he ordered and walked straight to the espresso bar to chat with me. He asked me lots of questions: where I was from, how long I had been in coffee, etc. And then the question that made my day: “I would love to get your number, if that’s alright with you?” I was thrilled. I sent him a text as soon as I was off work, but not before running the whole situation through my friend Molly. She vouched for him (they were in college ministry together!) and even hinted that he was very sweet, had an amazing voice and was incredible at playing guitar, (all true, by the way). Next thing I knew, he had planned a precious date for that weekend. Miles picked me up from my house and we played mini golf. By the second round we were just walking around carrying golf clubs, too caught up in conversation to give much attention to the game. So Miles suggested ice cream as an alternative and afterwards we spent hours talking. I don’t think I walked back into my house until 1am! Which if you know me, you know that is VERY out of character. I really, really liked him. And after that, we were basically inseparable! Only a few months into dating we told each other I love you for the first time. We were best friends and I couldn’t have handpicked any else better suited for me. The Lord is so sweet to have given us the most memorable café meet-cute but more so the gift of loving and knowing Miles Lovelady. On June 4th, 2025, Miles asked me to stand by his side forever. Days before he scouted out the spot, praying the Lord would help him know which turns to take. Miles found a spot that was just right and him and my brother Dawson made a plan. It turned out to be the sweetest and most thoughtful proposal in the green fields of Chickamauga, after a dinner with our close friends (shoutout to Alex, Logan and Nicole for helping keep the secret). Miles also surprised me afterwords by planning a celebration with all of our best friends and family at his brother’s house. It was one of our favorite days ever and we both felt so loved. We couldn’t be more excited for November 1st!
