We commonly use the phrase “Only God” to explain our relationship. We first met in the fall of 2021. We were interning together and realized we were both interested in one another. Through a series of events, we never ended up dating and lost contact with one another. Fast forward to the Spring of 2023. We were both in the same classes and on March 7, 2023 John asked Abby out, while she was holding the door at school open for the toilet paper delivery man. Abby was shocked and said she needed to think about it, and later said yes. It ended up being the best first date ever and the rest is history.

Basically, a lot of deception… Just kidding… kind of. John was able to get Abby’s mom on board and made Abby think she had planned a trip to Midland for a girls day that John just happened to tag along on to go disc golfing with the brothers. Bethany (Abby’s mom) took Abby shopping and suggested they take mother daughter pictures at Chippewa Nature Center. It was raining, Abby tried multiple times to get out of it. But moms know best how to get their children to do things. They start walking down a path and all of the sudden there were twinkle lights and, candles, and John. He played our song “Like the Rain” by Alex Sampson and we danced under a canopy while it was raining. John then got down on one knee and proposed. And Abby said yes.
