How We Met

Our 8th Grade Year

We met in 8th-grade science class, and John would spend the entire period tormenting me. I couldn't stand him! By the time high school rolled around we had become civil with one another, and slowly became the best of friends. We hung out with the same friend group which meant we spent lots of time together and by the end of our freshman year, we were dating! We have been together ever since! Christian High School is where it all started, and from there we have both moved to Minnesota in order to get our degrees in Pastoral Ministries. John and I are so excited to see what God will have for us there during these next three years!

The Engagement

Back to where it all began

John had bought the ring almost two years before proposing to me, and I knew this because the day he bought it he made sure I was aware he had it! He told me it was hidden somewhere in his house, and whenever I asked him why he bought it so far in advance he'd say, "Who knows, maybe I'll get down on one knee right now?" I knew that once we graduated High School it was fair game. We decided that we wanted to be married by the end of 2020 so the whole summer I waited and nothing happened. Eventually, it was time for us to move to Minnesota, and he kept saying he wanted our family to be around when we got engaged. So, every time we came home for a trip I made sure to have my nails done! It was nearing the end of Christmas break, and I was trying to not get my hopes up because John only had one day left in town before he would have to leave for a trip. He asked me on a lunch date and I let myself get excited! After lunch, John walked me back to my car and told me he loved me, and he would see me Sunday morning for our flight back to school. I was disappointed, to say the least. Once I got home my mom asked me to join her on some errands she needed to run, but first, she needed to drop my little brother off at basketball practice. We pulled up to the high school where John and I had graduated from, and I noticed the parking lot was empty. As we walked up to the door, one of the teachers John and I are both close to asked me to help her get something out of her car. She opened the side entrance door, and there was John. He was surrounded by strung up lights with pictures of our time together hung up everywhere, and he proposed to me in the exact spot where we had our first kiss. He was so sweet and I couldn't stop shaking! When we got back to my house both of our families and high school friends were there to celebrate with us! It was the most thoughtful and beautiful night! I know it is one we will never forget.
