James and I met in High School at Highlands Latin School. Our sophomore year we became really close friends, enthralled in an endless teasing game and always finding ways to have fun. Fast forward to college, I went to WKU while Jimmy went to U of L. Most of my visits back home turned into excuses to go to Five Guys with Jimmy where we would notoriously meet up for a burger and fries at 7 or 8 pm then stay talking till they closed. Even when they kicked us out, we'd then usually still talk in the parking lot for an hour longer. We talked about different adventures, traveling, and exploring the world. We were best friends, and years of friendship became the foundation for something much bigger. Every one of my college girlfriends would tease me endlessly about how much I talked about Jimmy and how we just needed to date. Many of my friends called it years before anything happened that he was the man I was going to marry. November of 2019, Jimmy asked me to go to the North American Rodeo and things started to pick up after that. January 2020, Jimmy had me taking personality tests and I started to get the feeling he was gathering data on how compatible we would be in a more than just-best-friends-relationship. I didn't know if this was an engineer thing or just a Jimmy thing, but I was 100% on board with the idea. Then February 2020, he asked me to go to a Beach Boys concert, and that night turned out to be our accidental first date! Singing along together to the song "Wouldn't It Be Nice" made us both realize it really would be nice and we were ready to be more than just friends. It didn't take long—quite literally just a few days—and we were planning the adventures we had always talked about. Within only a few months of dating and a few weekend adventures under our belt, we packed the FJ and hitched up Jimmy's sailboat. We then drove 14 hours to St. Simon's Island for a week of sailing out on the ocean. Jimmy convinced me to get SCUBA certified, and we planned our first dive trip in October, then another one again in May 2021, and many more since then. Adventures became a natural side effect of our relationship and over the years we have hiked more than 120 miles, biked over 100 miles in less than 3 months, completed more than 35 dives together, gone on 27 trips (and counting), attended 13 concerts, worked on skiing, surfing and sailing skills, tried over 300 wines together and got the world's cutest Aussie, Hazel! We are so excited to start our next big adventure together and thrilled to have you join us on November 23rd!
