Abby and Gentry met the modern way: by swiping right on Bumble (swoon!) during a worldwide pandemic. Their first date was a bit of a disaster—Gentry's vehicle was broken into in the restaurant parking lot as they were enjoying dinner, so Abby was left alone at the table while Gentry spoke to the police, and they spent the rest of their date in the parking lot cleaning up the mess and deciding what to do next! However, their second date went much better and they both knew pretty quickly (maybe Gentry a little sooner than Abby) that after years of disastrous dating, they had finally met their "person".
As mentioned before, Gentry and Abby knew early on that that this was it, and conversations naturally turned to talking about marriage and a life together. Abby started planning but didn't want to rush Gentry into the official proposal, but when she mentioned that she didn't want to wait all the way until Christmas, which low and behold is exactly what he had in mind, Gentry knew he'd better come up with a new plan! Gentry made the trip to Ellsworth to talk to Abby's parents in September, and the plan went into motion. He and Abby decided to take Gentry's kids, Rhys and Lauren, on their first roadtrip together, a quick Halloween weekend in Branson, MO. It didn't quite go exactly as planned, but that Friday morning before heading out to a full day at Silver Dollar City, Abby was in the kitchen looking for some breakfast. When she inquired about a box of donuts on top of the fridge that Gentry had brought in the night before, he knew it was time. He laid the donut box down on the counter, and as Abby opened it and read Gentry's proposal written out in icing on top of the donuts, she turned to see Gentry down on one knee. He definitely surprised her, and of course she said YES!
