Question

What’s the dress code?

Answer

Either Festive or Dressy Casual -- both are suitable. If you like to dance or roam, wear shoes you can dance and/or roam in.

Question

What are Basket Bearers?

Answer

Basket Bearers are kids and preteens who hold baskets full of interesting party favors.

Question

Will there be a wedding party: bridesmaids, groomsmen, flower girls, etc?

Answer

No, but we will ask some friends and family to take on special responsibilities. You’ll hear from us directly if we have a request.

Question

I see we're invited to the reception. What about the ceremony?

Answer

We will be getting married in a super small ceremony earlier that same day, in a nearby park. We will not be able to invite everyone because then we would have to apply for a park permit. Dorothy, Abby’s Mom, who happens to have a wedding license, will be officiating!

Question

Can I get you guys a gift?

Answer

Gifts are absolutely not expected—it is your presence that matters most to us. However, if you insist on giving us a gift, consider contributing to our China & Japan travel fund. The "registry" page of this website offers various ways to contribute.

Question

What's the parking situation?

Answer

There are no spots associated with the building. However, there is a paid lot directly across the street at 674 2nd Street (Brooklyn, NY 11215). Rate is $18.00 for the day. You can also look for street parking.

Question

How would I get there using public transit?

Answer

Best to take the D, R, or N to 36th Street in Brooklyn. It's a five block walk from there.

Question

What exactly is this place on 2nd avenue in Brooklyn? Why is it surrounded by warehouses, according to Google Street View?

Answer

2nd avenue is where the neighborhood of Sunset Park meets the East River, and was historically known as the "Bush Terminal" area. The surrounding blocks contained factories and shipping ports, and during WWII it employed 25,000 people engaged in wartime manufacturing. Now the riverfront has been gentrified with stores, shops, and restaurants, and is known as Industry City. If you have time, you might try exploring the area, checking out Japan Village, or looking for the old railroad tracks!

Question

Can I make a speech in which I toast (or roast) the bride and/or groom?

Answer

Talk to Emma Bratton (they/them). They are coordinating the order of speeches! You can reach them at emma.c.bratton@gmail.com.

Question

What's Abby going to do with her long hyphenated last name?

Answer

Keep it, actually. No one will be changing their names.

Question

I'll need to book a hotel room. Any recommendations?

Answer

It very much depends on your budget & preferences. Feel free to contact us directly if you need support. Here's some loose guidelines: -If you book a hotel (or Airbnb) in Sunset Park or in the areas near Prospect Park or Greenwood Cemetery, you'll be close to the reception and close to the bride & groom and their family. -West and north of Prospect Park is more affluent than east and south of Prospect Park. Depending on the price range/neighborhood you're looking for, that may affect your choice. -You can easily get to our reception from Manhattan, as well.

Question

You guys are sorta weird. Like, in a good way…but still. Should I expect the reception to be weird?

Answer

Yes! It will be a low budget, DIY, and quirky reception. We are excited to bring you all together.

For all the days along the way
